Opinions on the CRJ and Aerosoft

Recommended Posts

I like it. No buyers remorse. I'm a retired pilot of 40 years who has zero CRJ time. That said if spool up time is a little off, flight dynamics are a little off, it's not perfect* I really don't care as all in all it is a great aircraft for MSFS for the little it cost. It is great entertainment. For me it is good value for the buck.

*Some of the level c/d sims I trained in as far as I'm concerned sucked when it came to comparing to the real deal. For me, especially on a new sim, the first session was learning to fly the sim....as the individual giving the ride didn't care except if you followed procedures and and flew it within limits.

So yes once again I like this. It is the first decent aircraft for MSFS. Just got the DC6 and it too is great. These two aircraft have greatly increased my enjoyment factor of MSFS.

Are you speaking of the current MSFS version? The reversers most definitely do not deploy in flight even if you pull the powers levers into the reverse range with the switches armed. That bug existed in the P3D version (briefly) three years ago, but was fixed long ago.

Yep, current MSFS version. I know in the initial release it actually opened the reversers and you could use them as speed brakes for a ridiculous descent rate. The current version mostly seems to allow you to pull the levers up (should not be possible) and change engine indications without showing the REV boxes in the N1 gauges. Even with reversers disarmed.

I think some of the comments are a bit ott, Aerosoft never claimed the aircaft was "Study Level" ie they did not intend to have all systems replicated, or faults. I honestly think they did a good job with it, yes there are issues (i also see the climb performance is way to high) and truly feel sorry for those that are having issues. For the money i am more than happy with it, especially if you consider this is little over the cost of the two CS 777 offerings.

To keep it concise- I had too many random issues on flights to enjoy it, and stopped flying it altogether. The WT CJ4 is a far superior aircraft with similar complexity for way, way less money (free).

Don't ask for help in their forums unless you want to be ridiculed by the staff and your posts locked then deleted - aircraft is ok Support is terrible won't buy from them again.

That’s not the same thing as the reversers actually deploying, which requires the switches to be activated and weight on wheels (in the sim). Going below the reverse gate in the air will give less (forward) thrust than normal flight idle of course, but that is the only aerodynamic effect.

Unfortunately, there is no way in MSFS to prevent a simulated aircraft from responding to axis inputs. The new throttle control system (calibrated via the EFB) considers the power levers to be in reverse range when the axis reading is less than the calibrated idle stop (plus a buffer), which causes the reverse unlock levers to rise (in the air) even though they don’t actually do anything other than visually move in the VC.

But that is kind of the whole point though. Nothing should happen at all, no lower thrust, N1, N2, ITT etc. Because I should not be able to lift the reverse levers. And I am not even using any axis to control the thrust, just simple buttons. I mean, IMO there should be a creative solution. Default planes manage to do it.

But, I do not mean to beat a dead horse, nor to bash the add-on. Opinions were asked, I gave mine. For me the addon and support from Aerosoft is lackluster at best (though kudos to you Mr. Barrett, you always seem to reply in an objective and professional matter despite dealing with negative somewhat loudmouths like me, and that should be an example for some people over at Aerosoft).

I also appreciate that others can enjoy the addon, it just does not float my boat.

They must be close cousins of Majestic, and now that I am reminded of it, Orbx.
