I Wonder if i7 11700k how performs in p3d V5.2.

Better than i9 9900k or the same?

Mate you will barely notice the difference.

Thanks a lot for that.

What makes you say this?

Did you go from a 9900k to 11700k?

no i will stay with my 19 9900k for at least another 2 years , i update every 4 to 5 years.

but i go high end when i do, i dont understand the mentality of upgrading every year for a 5% gain.

cheers

Check this comparison out. Looks like maybe 10-12% performance increase for 5-7% price increase? Am I reading this correctly?

Still a lot of time involved swapping out hardware and re-installing Windows even if you don't have to buy a new motherboard.

I'm actually interested in this question as I was considering replacing my motherboard anyway. I'm coming from 8600k, so I'm hoping that the 11700k will give me quite a jump. What's got me a little bit worried however are the temps with the 11700k. Any thoughts?

Yeah I don't like the temps on the 11700k either.  I'm probably going to hold on my 9700k then jump when they do the shrink and alder lake series.  Hopefully early next year I'll be rebuilding.  But there have been some people who went from 9700k/9900k who upgraded to the 11700k and reported good gains.  Who knows.

Incremental gains on single-threaded loads for new generations of Intel (or AMD) CPUs are always going to be small, though. A few % at most. Eking out more efficiencies, and better pipelining / branch prediction. The only thing that really gives significant performance increases on single-threaded loads is clock speed, and on current technology we're never going to hit 7GHz+ which is what you'd need to really start seeing major performance improvements like in the days of Moore's Law, although better overclockability helps of course (if we can run a newer CPU at, say, 5.5GHz reliably, that's a definite improvement on 5GHz).

Multi-threaded performance, adding more cores etc is where it's at these days. In a flight sim context, gains with new CPUs tend to come from the OS and other tasks on that PC running faster, and having less contention for the core that the main sim thread is running on, because there are more cores overall. I definitely saw a performance uplift going from 4 cores to 8.

Personally, I replace my sim machines when they wear out these days. I'm still running an 8th gen and a 9th gen and I don't intend to rebuild them anytime soon. My desktop is a 7th gen, though, and given Win11 probably won't support it I'm planning to replace the motherboard and CPU for something a little newer. Maybe even dabble with AMD.

I have a 9900k, and am looking to replace it. Think of them what you like, but benchmark charts show significant gains for 11th gen Intel CPUs over the 9900K: 15 - 20 % for single thread, 30+ % for overall performance for the 11900K, and the 11700K isn't far behind. Is it worth the money and the trouble? That depends on who you ask (although I think a Windows re-installation is not necessary).

I will admit that the early data looks promising. If Intel has managed to achieve a double-digit uplift in single-threaded performance, it will be impressive. I might look to upgrade my image generator PC early if that's the case.

I have an i7 11700k after upgrading from an i7 7700k.

If overclocked correctly then temperatures aren't actually as bad a people make out, granted it still is a hot chip, but the same can be said about AMD's 5000 series. I'm using a Corsair H100i Capellix AIO.

I peak at around 50 degrees C under load when running P3D etc! My overclock peak is 4.9 but is set to different clock speeds depending on CPU usage. When running P3D it's at 4.7, and having tried higher clock speeds I haven't noticed much difference with performance going any higher. I set it to 5.2 and gained 4-6 fps, with temps peaking around 75. I feel like I don't really need to push it this high as average FPS is way above 30 even at 4.7 (using FSL/PMDG and heavy scenery etc).

So from a 7700 to 11700 I noticed a huge difference, couldn't really comment on 9900 to 11700 though.

If you are talking mainly FS2020 performance gains, I'd wait until the Jul 27 sim update where this level of CPU performance improvement and possibly more, is anticipated. If it pans out, you may not need to upgrade anything.
