MFD/PFD Instrument clarity

Featured Replies

Hi All

I am struggling to read the instruments on the MFD/PFD equipped aircraft.

I have Nvidia GTX1070Ti with i7-8700k @ 3.7Ghz and 32GB RAM. The screen is a Samsung Odyssey G7 native at 2560x1440. Refresh rate at 144Hz.

I wonder if anyone could help me optimise my graphic settings to make the instruments as clear as my system will allow please?

many thanks

Unfortunately, like you, I have found the glass screen readability to be right on the edge at this resolution (2560x1440).

You could make sure sharpening is set in the user config file (if you haven't edited it, it should be set), and try running at 110% scaling with TAA set on for antialiasing.

I could just manage 2560 at 130% with my 1080Ti and hold a steady 30 fps, but as I now have a 4k native screen, I do it the other way around, 4k at 70% - screens readable.

The only other thing you could try is adjust your camera position a bit nearer and save it.  I actually save a hot key (alt-2) to zoom right in on my primary display, and alt-3 for the secondary.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Spare a thought for those of us with 1920x1080 monitors.  It is diabolical.

Ctrl-1 and Ctrl-2 are already set in the sim.

Thanks - that's re-assuring to hear ! Its a shame really as it does detract from the experience at the moment..

I have the exact same specs as the OP and I feel like if I set render scaling to less than 100% I get blurry glass avionics.

I have a ASUS VG289 4K 28" 4K monitor and with the native 3840 x 2160 res set in the sim I notice no difference in panel clarity between render scaling at 70 to 100.  I pulled three screen captures with different render scaling (70, 90, 100) into Photoshop and enlarged and could ascertain no real difference.  Those from the DA62.

Yes Frank, like I say, I can get away with 4k 70% on my native 4k screen, but the OP has a 2560x1440 screen (basically what they call 2k resolution).  The only chance he has is to upscale if he can hold his fps.

When I ran my 4k screen at 2k for an experiment, I found I had to upscale to around 120-130% to make it readable.  It wasn't worth it for me - no real performance gain doing it this way.  I found 4k and then downscaling to 70% to hold my fps was the best balance between screen sharpness and performance.  Unfortunately, the OP doesn't have this choice. 😕

Set your Render Scaling as high as you can.  It sharpens all imagery.

I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised if running a lower resolution with higher render scaling didn't provide a better image than the original higher resolution.  It seems to be the way the program was written.
