Have you checked the windows dynamic thread disabling tweak via ProcessLasso

Yes Michael, DT is disabled in PL, but game mode was on, so will test with off, latest windows update too, done before hotfix.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Not because MSFS, because my GTX1080 is running to hot and shuts itself down !

I have a 1070 with no issues at all but I do have it locked @ 45 on 120Hz monitor, try limiting frames to 30 and test.

Thanks for the advice CarlosF.

I did not tested a lot with different settings. Already ordered a new GPU (3080Ti) after it was confirmed she will work with the old rig. I know, it is not the best combination but will do it to my needs. I don't want to spend a lot more money for a whole new system and I don't can get all the parts I want for, the GPU is expensive enough ....

Best regards

After the performance changes, and with that GPU, you can probably run 2 games simultaneously without any performance issues. The 3080 is overkill at this point, but it's a good choice none-the-less. That said, even though the performance improvements are there in this version (SU5), there are issues.

very nice.

absolutely not.

it depends on monitor resolution: for 4K monitors or VR headsets it is - not must have - but very nice to have: 55 fps vs. 25 fps on average on my system RTX 3090 vs. previous GTX 1080i. for 1K 1080p resolution yes, RTX 3080/3090 is not needed.

I guess it depends on what someone thinks of as overkill, my 2080 works fine, heck even my 2060 does 4k ok unless I am in very specific areas of the game, I may have had to adjust 1-2 things down a bit, but in this version probably not even that anymore. You don't need 4k anyway, 1440p is fine in most situations (though some 4k monitors probably have scaling issues with doing that), but you can do Native 4k and just downscale other settings to simulate 1440p. I've compared my own renders in all different resolutions at various things, and I just don't see the need, but to each their own.

I am not sure about VR, never tried it.

My intention is -  4K native on my LG OLED48C1 for games (no hardcore) / movies eg and MSFS of course as best as i can with my old I7 3770K.

And use the old monitor (28"/1080p) as second monitor for text based things as I used to since years ....
Therefore I ordered the GTX3080Ti.  For the "rest" of the computer, except a new PSU, I'll have time to collect money and to buy what I want and not what I can get.

you may not NEED lots of pretty graphics features neither, nor all the other features in the "Configuration" department, just like you don't NEED MSFS in the first place - P3D is fine in most situations.

or to quote french philosopher Voltaire, after he upgraded his pc said: "The best is the enemy of the good".

I need classic music, red wine, sunshine and a perfect MSFS machine. nothing else matters.

1440p looks the same IMO, if you do it correctly. But you may have slightly better vision than me, so cannot say.

perhaps. But I wish I didn't, would save me a lot of $$ for large screen 4K TVs, RTX 3090, HP VR G2 headset etc 😊

I think I´ll have to give up flying by now, too. FS2020 continues crashing, on every flight for the same reason: \Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\clr.dll.

Before SU5 and the hotfix I did not experience one single CTD for many months... Opend a ticket on zendesk, no response until now. Maybe they are busy... Let´s wait... 😉
