Hotfix 1.18.14.0 is now live!

Featured Replies

Hi,

After the hotfix 1.18.14.0 the throttle (Logitech G940) is not working.

It goes from 0% to 100% in every plane (its either 0 or 100, no intermediate power). Sometimes the control is not moving at all (can control it only with the Keyboard or Mouse, though).

So, I can't fly (I don't know it the hotfix works to eliminate the multiple CTDs I had).

I didn't have problems with the throttle before (I own MSFS 2020 since the first day last year).

A complete mess.

I reported the issue to Zendesk, but no solution at this time.

Hmm, did you check for like a profile issue tied to the XBOX Live thing?
That's weird, I'd be interested to know when you figure it out what it was.

I could provide other suggestions, but they mostly involving reinstalling Windows, or at the very least reinstalling the SIM.

I had admin rights issue cant remember why I wanted to make some admin adjustments but did not end well and I it wouldnt reinstall so I gave up which is something I dont do very often

Im was not a fan of a Steam but now I am

Yah, it's all very frustrating. My Logitech Extreme is working, but it is a MUCH simpler control setup than you have.

I don't have any great suggestions other than either wait for a patch, or get you a cheaper temporary joystick with a built-in throttle.

These work pretty good as a cheap backup Joystick, I actually prefer them over many joysticks that were $80 - $100.

Thank you, Alpine, for your advice.

I considered to buy a new Hotas when I bought MSFS last year. But my G940 worked (I had to change some assignments in the Control panel, but it worked till yesterday!).

In addition, the quality of the materials with which the Logitech G940 is made is excellent.

I think the problem is the last update and the hotfix (there are more people with problems with the aircarft and controls), so I'm waiting for the Zendesk answer.

Anyway, its very disappointing.

Yah, there are many good joysticks. I play from a recliner so I have to use smaller ones, it gets too hard to use a HOTAS or anything heavy duty, and so I also do not use rudder pedals. Most likely it is SU 5 that caused this (there are a few devices not working for people), it probably serialized a bad state variable that isn't being refreshed correctly.

You probably already tried, but just in case, unplug all USB devices. Shut down the PC. Plug everything back-in, turn the PC back on. Run the Windows joystick calibration to see if it is working in Windows. Load FS 2020, play around in the control setup.

That's good advice, but i might stop short on # 5 telling people to go into their BIOS, last resort if their PC is like totally crashing or something. Everything is normal on the PC's I am getting CTD's on, hence it can survive in stress testing in cinebench with no issues, but still get random CTD in FS 2020.

I hear you but anyone who is already overclocking their CPU should be able to figure out how to save their settings and run defaults. Ultimately their overclock might be causing the CTDs. Can’t overlook it imo.

MSFS is a stress test all in itself. Newer CPU's and GPU's are just not as heat friendly as older ones. I have to use a $120 Noctua DS-15, almost any other air cooler I had on my 5800x wasn't good enough, of course water cooling but too much trouble for my tastes. I don't have a 3060/3070/3080, I have a 2060 and a 2080, and some other stuff. People with the 3000 Nvidia series have heating issues all on their own, even though the GPU will throttle, it can really heat up inside of their cases and even heat their memory. People have to be careful with these newer PC's, they put out too much heat and are drawing crazy amounts of wattage.

Even though the above is true, most of these CTD's for THIS patch appear to be software related, but for a select few it can be other causes still.

It's solved!

Thank you, Alpine!

You were right! You solved my problem!

I've done what you said: unplug the USB devices, shut down the PC..., and so on!

It worked like a charm!

Thank you very much!

Any luck since posting? I have a similar problem. Never had this problem before. After launching FS2020, the app tells me an update is available from the MS store, then quits and launches the MS Store app. (I had bought the app from the store after cancelling my xBox PC game pass). But there is no update available. Rebooted the PC a few times. No effect. Checking for updates in the MS Store yields the message that all my trusted apps are up to date. It also says that FS2020 was last updated on July 27th. (That was SU5). Still can't launch the sim. It checks for updates, tells me an update from the MS Store is mandatory, closes down and opens the MS Store where I am told that the sim us up to date.

Just tried again this morning still same issue, if I get to the bottom of it I’ll tell you the solution. Very frustrating

What does disappoint me a bit are water reflections.  The water in MSFS always amazed me - looked very real and performed well.  With this update the reflections dance around in a very distracting way as if they are being calculated from earlier frames.

Yes, I noticed the weird dancing reflections. I haven't tried someone else's suggestion to lower reflections from ultra to high -- but, of course, it needs to be addressed properly by Asobo.

MSFS really is a stress test, no doubt. I have an AIO water cooler for mine which has the benefit of taking the CPU heat out of the case. Air cooling doesn’t have that advantage. Still, being aggressive with fan usage (mine hit 100% when GPU hits 70 C) can have a huge benefit. So heat is going to be the culprit for some. Overclocking will impact some. Running add-ons that cause crashes will impact others. The key is to simplify your system. Get to a known stable state, then slowly add things back. I have zero CTDs and many others do too, so there is something going on with those systems. Just a matter of tracking it down.
