Amazing, how many people notice changes that didn't happen. 🤯

Read the release notes. They didn't magically solve the pop-in issue. They did nothing to the lighting system... etc. Just sayin'...

Gosh.  Coming here does nothing for those of still using P3D wondering about making "the switch".

There is no free lunch!  No pain no gain.  😩

You do realize they specifically say the release notes don't necessarily cover all changes made......  in the case of the lighting for instance, videos of before and after, clearly show the change.

Same old sim cycle of life/story.  Empty promises.  I wish someone could just get it right.

This is a very complex flight sim. It is going to push any system. I had many CTDs after installing SU5 but now my system is rock solid.

No pain. No gain. You are going to have to work for it a little. But oh is it worth it!

Comparing P3D to the current MSFS is like comparing a 1956 Chevy that was gutted and rebuilt with all new parts, to a new $60K Audi or Lexus. P3D is an order of magnitude less immersive for General Aviation flight.

How many people use stock P3D with default planes and scenery anyway? Almost none. Most people download freeware or pay for 3rd party software fixes and enhancements, and tinker with CFG and other files to get something usable.

I’ve been using default MSFS for a year. Partly because A2A planes aren’t available, and partly because it’s not really needed.

I was referring to the hotfix specifically. I do realize they don't specify everything in the release notes - which is mind-blowing to me, since sometimes we're talking about significant changes, like the lighting in SU5 in comparison to SU4. Why wouldn't you even mention this, Asobo? But in the case of this hotfix, released just after a few days since the update, don't expect major changes.

They have to rework the rendering code. I have a 12GB GPU but it seems to max out at 4.3GB of 11.2GB available VRAM.  7GB going to waste while I witness yucky flat and blurry landscape.

What you're looking at is an ultra aggressive development trajectory, not the every 2y for P3D and virtually never for FSX.  MS/A has already, less than a year out, got so much very right.  These are the predicted growing pains when growth is this fast, including porting to an entirely new platform, Xbox.  If you're still wondering about making the switch (does it really have to be either/or?) then you'd best stay where things are stable, expensive to enhance and forever to install and update, and ultimately boring.   I used FSX way back when til P3D 2.x, 3.x, 4.5 and I can accurately call myself an addict to the hobby, and by far I have flow more hours per day in MSFS than I ever did over decades in the other sims.  Over the last 6 months I've used P3D just a handful of times and the last two flights in the venerable PMDG 777 were aborted shortly after takeoff.  It's been virtually flawless for me, and ultra easy to update and maintain.   I will probably dabble again in P3D since SU5 now until MSFS is re-tuned again for PC.  My chief complaint now has nothing to do w/ CTD, stutters, etc.  95% of all updates have been flawless and simple to execute.  Primarily we're looking at a significant but modest downturn in image quality, while 'performance' has been significantly enhanced.  I have complete confidence that when the dust clears w/ the Xbox port and fine tune we will see the Win 10 reprioritized and optimized once again.

At least you don't have a 3090 :m_marah:.  Take a deep breath guaranteed it will be restored as the Xbox port is considered stable and the PC version reprioritized.

If I may inquire, what did you do to make your system "rock solid?"

Speaking towards that, I suspect that now that it's now not quite so nearly unusably heavy on frames, a lot more attention might get diverted to the 787 from now on, if something can just be done about the encryption.......

CPU and RAM have been better optimized in SU5.  That's great, but the GPU / VRAM is in a sorry state.

The sim is not making anywhere near full use of GPU resources.

Specifically the code that loads and frees objects, trees, buildings etc from VRAM is not doing the job.  Even with tweaks to the config file it is only marginally better.

Asobo need to make an urgent fix.
