Abysmal Perfomance of FSX in Vista

Featured Replies

From an unknown source: The following steps will disable DEP (Data execution Prevention) on your Vista system. 1. click Start 2. click All Programs 3. click Accessories 4. right click on Command Prompt 5. Click Run as Administrator from the menu 6.run the following in the command window bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff 7. hit 8 reboot your system and everything should run fine. DISCLAIMER - Perform this at your own risk! -------------------------------------------Q. Are Eaglesoft products Vista ready? A. Eaglesoft does not yet support Vista and will not until we see this OS and Hardware/Driver combinations along with certain security settings recognized as a stable platform for FS9 and FSX. Q. Will the Eaglesoft/Flight One ecommerce wrapper work in Vista? A. Eaglesoft does not currently have a Vista version wrapped with the Flight One ecommerce wrapper system. There is a thread in the Flight One forums about setting your security settings to allow Vista installs. See this thread: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=19352 Our website is perfectly clear that WinXP is supported. There is no reference to Vista because we do not yet support Vista. We have been aware of Vista, its problems, and its beta test since the Fall of 2005. We have been involved in FSX beta testing since its first beta release and are still involved in FSX beta testing. We made a concious decision to leave Vista alone until it is established as a stable OS for Flight Sim enthusiasts and more importantly, until Hardware and Driver support is stabilized for Flight Sim enthusiasts. Any astute Flight Sim enthusiast is aware of the issues involved in the current release of FSX and the upcoming FSX SP1 along with the issues with FS9 and FSX under Vista OS. Vista users who wish to operate our products in either FS9 or FSX will have to be patient until we are satisfied that Vista/FS9/FSX/Hardware/Drivers are a stable combination before we dive in to even more issues than are already presented by FSX. In short, it's too early in the game for us to be sidelined from FS9 and FSX development and support. Consider the fact that Eaglesoft builds products for FS9 and FSX, NOT a specific OS or Hardware combination. Hope this helps :-)

I had my special Link Tampering Unit here at Microsoft scramble those links. Now you've unscrambled them! Now I'm going to give the Windows 98SE Self Destruct Unit a call so they can remotely disable your OS until you're forced to sign a new, 312 page EULA. Oh, and we'll need a DNA sample.--Steve Ballmer

Apology offered

No, this really is Steve Ballmer. You mean you don't believe in The Conspiracy?

Give me a break!>>Rob.>>I'm "idling" at 0-1% processor usage at the moment, nothing drastic going on in the way of tweaks, with just Firefox 2.0 and the task manager open, in XP Home. I'm looking at 350MB page file usage, but I haven't restarted recently, so I may have some leftover nonsense. Out of the 2GB of RAM, 1,509,000 (approx.) available and 1,732,000 system cache. I have a few absolutely un-needed services turned off, but nothing drastic. In an hour or two, I'll be putting Vista Home Premium on here, so we'll see how things look from there.

>Apology offeredNo need to apologize, I just want to be clear that we're not trying to silence anyone. There may be some confusion, as some FSX vs FS9 threads have been locked. Both Geof and I agree that those debates have run their course, there's been nothing new added to the conversation lately, and they have been devolving into personal attacks. But outside of that particular issue, I'm resolved that this is an open forum for (flight sim related) discussion and people don't need to be worried about taking an unpopular or different opinion. In your case, you've done well to point out that you aren't attacking anyone on this forum, and though I don't subscribe to your views on the issue, you may notice that no one has kept you from posting them.

Glad you put in that disclaimer -- you might want to let folks know what turning this feature off does. Also DEP is not just for Vista, WinXP SP2 supports it. And there are configuration options for Hardware DEP and Software DEP.Here is the article for folks to get a better understanding of what they're getting into or out of as the case may be:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352Rob.

From what I've read there, it would seem that it would be more prudent to explictly exclude ONLY FSX from DEP (and possibly any other related addon .dll files). This way, the rest of the system remains "protected" from malicious code, but would allow FSX and addons to funtion without restriction.

repeating help you any -- doesn't help anyone else1. You say NOTHING about what settings you used in either driver case2. you provide no pics of before and after showing graphics card settings, FSX settings, and fps counter over the same area location3. it's very easy to play with compression settings in a driver to provide better performance and/or adjust the definition of the quality settings -- ATI & nVidia do this all the timeNo matter how often you repeat, I would never believe what you said on what you've presented alone -- and I hope others will not either. You'll have to back up what you say with more than just repeating the same sentence over and over.Rob.
