Why only 30 or 60 fps lock?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Why is the only option to lock your fps to 30 or 60 fps?

I fly my sim in 4k ultra settings. If I lock my sim to 60 fps my graphics card is running at 100% all the time and makes to much noise (GTX 1080ti)

So I set it to max 30 fps. It works fine, I get almost 30 fps everywhere. However, I can feel the difference between 30 and 60 fps. And I do like 60 more then 30.

Why isn't there an option to set it to 40 or 50?

Does anybody still use an external framerate limiter? I used it a lot for FSX and P3D 32-bit

Hi;

There is option for your purpose, of course. I do the same as follows.

You can close the V sync in game and use the NVidia Control Panel settings from the desktop and limit your MSFS2020 to any fps. I hope this helps.

Happy Flying.

Intel i7-9700K - AMD 7900 XT (VRAM 20GB) - 32 Gb Ram - SSD Drive - Win10 x64 - Samsung 43" 4K TV - Quest 3 VR

It's because most monitors have a 60 Hz vertical refresh rate, and the framerate limiter in game is a function of Vsync. So it synchronises the in-game framerate to standard monitor refresh rate or half standard monitor refresh rate.

Asobo use adaptive v-sync, and the 20-30-60 v-sync options are related to 60hz monitors, 60 will lock at your monitor refresh rate, 30 to half and 20 to a third of the refresh rate your monitor using, for example, if you use a 120hz monitor, 60 will lock at 120fps, 30 at 60, and 20 at 40fps an so on.

If you want to lock fps the old school way, you can do that with other software, eg. Nvidia panel or Riva Tuner.

Locking fps in the sim to 60fps did not work in my case.  I was seeing fps as high as 100fps. I finally locked it to 60fps in Nvidia control panel. Mabe it is because I have a 120hz refresh monitor?

Yes, that’s exactly why. Try 20 you’ll see FR lock to 40, 30 gives you 60.

I have found out that in game adaptive v-sync works best on my monitor, I now run my 100hz monitor at 75hz and get 37.5 fps with the 30 (half) settings, my fps hardly never goes under 40 fps, so locking at 37fps was the sweet spot for me.
