My first CTD

Featured Replies

Should i celebrate? LFying the CJ4 from YBBN to YSSN in live weather (BAD weather with a HEAVY turbulence at 440). I was about five minutes at cruise altitude 440, the CJ4 bouncing up and down, rocketing sideways in the heavy turbulence while i had fun!  And there was this tiny freeze and without any message whatsoever, back to the desktop. Remembers me that i stopped flying IRF in FS9 as it was unforgiving with CTD's after a three hour flight 20 miles to go Back to desktop...

I game for about 30 years now, i own about 300 games from Battlefield - GTA 5 - Portal -DCS - Farming sim - Elite Dangerous - X4 Foundations - Assetto Corsa - rFactor 2 and i i NEVER(!!!) had a CTD within ANY of the 300 games i own.....except for flight simulator FS9, FSX and now Fs 2020. And honestly, this CTD has drained all happiness away in an instand as i will not enjoy Fs 2020 anymore. Its not reliable. With Elite Dangerous or DCS i can play for about 4 to 5 hours non stop without any problems. That is the most important factor of a game: reliability. Im very sad as this is the end of IFR flying. I will only fly very short VFR flights that take max 30 minutes.

Nice try Asobo and MS but my rating after 40 hours between 0 and 10 = 4. It looks good and that is it. Im sad...

Don't give up. CTD's are very frustrating for sure. And there are some known locations that cause reproducable CTD's.  Hopefully the devs will get to fixing them sooner than later https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/100-reproducible-ctd-at-specific-coordinates-for-months-grammar-pggmod/324495/61

You might try flying at the same location you had a CTD and see if it's reproducable. And you should report it to Zendesk. The more votes and reports the more likely these CTD's will get fixed.

Kind regards,

Tim

You had one CTD.  I had about 150 back in the beginning of the year, sometimes 2 or 3 a day,  on my brand new PC, until I finally found out there was something wrong with my PC and had it repaired. Haven't had one since.

Really. 1 CTD in 40 hours. I had not as many as Bobsk8 but definitely some during the first 500 hrs. 1 single more recently before hitting 960 hrs. No need to worry for me as I have no other option anyway. Be patient. Try the usual. Not repeating all but did you disable community folder and mods, disable any overclocking (MSFS is not very forgiving, especially for o/c‘ed GPUs), are you running an AMD CPU and/or Radeon GPU…?

i5 10600KF, 32 GB 3200 RAM, ASUS 4070 12GB EVO, Asus ROG Z490-H, 2 WD Black NVME for each Win11 (500GB) and MSFS (1TB), Rolling Cache 16GB, Photogrammetry always OFF, Live Weather and Live Traffic always ON, Res 2560x1440 on 27"

If 1 CTD is going to give you that much grief.. (Which possibly isn't even the sims fault) Yeah .. probably this sim isn't for you.

Hope you find happiness in whichever other sim you fly.

Cheers
