Feel Good Movies.../

Featured Replies

I love those old 'feel good' movies.  Hollywood performed a valuable service in the 30s giving the people something to take their minds off the hard times they were going through during the depression.  An afternoon at the movies watching feel good movies and musicals. We are now going through such times with political and civil unrest and a pandemic and very little good news.  But Hollywood is hung up on zombies and action movies where they can show off computer graphics.  And television isn't much better except for old sitcom reruns and Turner Classic Movies.  I watch for them

A pair of goodies was on last evening.  'Meet Me in St Louis' and 'It Happened on 5th Avenue'.

Maybe I like them because they're old and familiar but they do take my mind off today's problems and make me laugh and smile and maybe even tear up a little.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Any dance movie with Ginger Rogers dancing makes me feel good to one degree or another, with Swing Time the best and Barkleys of Broadway the least. (She was a replacement for someone... Fred was never crazy about her, so the plot is sort of life imitating art.) Bachelor Mother is a great holiday non-dancing Ginger movie with David Niven. Feel good isn't my thing--Die Hard is my idea of a Christmas movie 🙂

That’s precisely why I rarely go to the movies any more. Too many superhero/comic book based Marvel movies and sci-fi/apocalypse movies for my taste.  Not to mention movies that are almost like video games.

Frankly I’m not sure how the Marvel and superhero movies have gained so much traction amoung people over 18. When I was a kid of pretty much outgrew all that stuff by the time I was 12 years old, now a lot of 40 and under are watching it.

These days I pretty much watch a lot of movies and tv shows that come from either the U.K. or Europe. I can find a lot of those on either Netflix or Amazon Prime.

I do enjoy watching some old shows from back in the 70’s and 80’s. Reminds me of the era when I was growing up and people pretty much all got along, music was better and people were happy and not so stressed out.

Quite a bit on the newer side , but Red Notice with The Rock and Ryan Reynolds on Netflix was a lot of fun to watch .
