Sky Simulations Lufthansa MD-11F

Featured Replies

In my previous post, I'd posted a few images of "KLM" MD-11 PMDG (Pax) Model, for a special and personal reason. I'd indicated there that I've ended up (also) acquiring the SKYSIM MD-11, driven by my affection...🙂...for this a/c...

I spent a little bit of time, today, to get just a feel for this SIM...so here, below, please find 10 pictures of a Lufthansa MD-11 Freighter. BTW, contrary to my previous (mistaken) assumption, Lufthansa, had never deployed any MD-11 in the passenger mode, but they did operate 12 DC-10s for pax transport, between 1973 and 1996. If my memory serves me right, I might have travelled on their DC-10s, but mostly I recall well travels on their (later) B747s and A330s/340s.

Of course, Lufthansa was a big operator of MD-11F. They operated 19 MD-11 Freighters over a span of 23 years, between 1998, until just over 2 months ago. The last remaining (MD-11F) on Lufthansa fleet, and also the last MD-11 on the European continent, operated its final flight, on October 17, this year (2021), touching down in Frankfurt from New York JFK. Lufthansa’s last MD-11F, was the last of the model registered in Europe. You may refer back to a beautiful shot of the (final) Farewell MD-11F LH (D-ALCC) in an earlier (P3D) post, here, by another member.

On the occasion of the MD-11F retirement, here is a heartening statement issued by the Lufthansa Cargo Executive body: “We are very grateful to our MD-11F fleet for over two decades of loyal service. We know that this particular aircraft has an incredible number of fans, throughout our colleagues at Lufthansa as well as among aviation enthusiasts worldwide..." How true, indeed...!

So, hope you enjoy these few (additional) sample screenshots, below, of another LH MD-11 Freighter (D-ALCO).

Thanks for viewing...!

Very nice shots! 🙂

I don't understand why PMDG ceased this plane?

You're probably already keeping up with TFDi updates...I'd not been into their Forum in a very a long time until this week to pick up the Classic KLM (B717) repaint, for my previous post...

There are details about their MD-11 in their FlightSimExpo 2021 Blog... (you'll get there...pmplayer...🙂...) ...

Thanks, Steve. And, fully agree about this livery, without a doubt,...but which color.... Steve, new look or old look...? No need to answer...🙂...both look good really...the P3D LH (Farewell) shot of the other post, I've referenced above, in my text, showed the new look...this here, is, of course, the old look, to which I'm partial, because I'd flown my very first 747 on an (old color) LH 747...ages ago, but still quite fresh in my mind...

Glad you liked these pics of the MD-11. There are obviously many factors, Alaska738, but, as we all know from our long involvement in this hobby...it's generally a tussle between multiple active projects and limited resource constraints...But, this plane is rather unique, and feels different from A-/B-...🙂...that's for sure...

Beautiful....I'll Miss seeing my Old Friend Landing at KORD,

Patrick: Thank you. I'm just guessing...you probably have seen this Old Friend...🙂...in the color of either FedEx or UPS...at least that's what I recall seeing occasionally (on I-294 near O'Hare) ...these planes seconds from touchdown...

Folks:

Please find, below, 7 (landing) pictures of FedEx MD-11F (N588FE). The a/c was originally delivered to American Airlines in 1992, as a "Luxury Liner", changed parent to FedEx, in 2000, and has been an active freighter...since..., for more than two decades already...

Today, on 30th Dec., it departed Oakland at 2:29am (note "am"), arriving at Portland at 4:19am, then left Portland at 6:19am, and arrived at Indianapolis at 12:32 pm. And, as I write this, it's currently in flight from Indianapolis on its way back to Portland, expected to arrive there in less than half hour...only (probably) to restart the cycle of rotation...

Talk about a busy Freight Dog...! So, when we go to sleep, these planes (and their pilots) go to work...this MD-11 (work-horse) is going strong after 29+ years...impressive...! Also, I cannot believe it is actually flying in RW sky, at the same time, when I am fiddling with a 2D replica of it in my virtual sky...🙂...!

Thanks for your interest...!

No doubt!  I live in the approach path to KDFW, she is a frequently spotted aircraft, along with the occasional and welcome A300. 🙂  UPS is also very active here and I see many Brown-n-White MDs overhead as well. I sure hope TFDI version for MSFS is not too far out, would both paint and fly her. 🙂
