January 17, 20224 yr Okay, I do this thing very casually. So please be kind. Departing NZAA SID departure from SimBrief, it seems my track will take me off the runway and immediate turn to my first waypoint I would have thought you'd head 230 for a bit then turn???
January 17, 20224 yr "Mandatory left turn at 500 direct Steal." So once achieving 500 ft initiate left turn DTO steal. Cross steal at or below 5000 25oknts max.. Edited January 17, 20224 yr by Adrian123

Departing NZAA SID departure from SimBrief, it seems my track will take me off the runway and immediate turn to my first waypoint I would have thought you'd head 230 for a bit then turn??? I looked at a couple of sids on the charts for that airport and they call for a turn at 500 feet.
January 17, 20224 yr Did you select the departure runway and procedure in the mcdu? January 17, 20224 yr Author Sweet, I thought I was missing something when setting up for departure. I can see that now on the chart.

Just curious... Would climbing out on runway heading to 500 ft, and then engaging AP do the job? If I understand things, it would initiate a left turn to intercept the line as drawn at some angle (30 degrees? 45 degrees?) then right turn towards STEAL. Either way, the job is done. 😉 ...jim ASUS Prime Z790-E, Intel i9 13900K, 32Gb DDR5 Ram, Nvidia 3090 24Gb, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB and 1 TB, Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide 49" G-SYNC Monitor.
January 17, 20224 yr I would think so or should at long as LNAV is engaged. Personally I would fly departure rwy heading manually and make the turn to intercept then engage AP with ALT set to 5000 and speed at 240knts.

How do you force flying runway heading?

On the A320 you engage LNAV (just called NAV mode I think?) by pushing the knob directly below the HDG display window (directly to the left of the AP1 button). If you want it to fly any particular heading (including the runway heading) you pull that knob toward you and dial in the heading you want. January 18, 20224 yr Not a RW Airbus person, but if memory serves correctly, the study level Airbus models display such departures correctly, with a short segment on runway heading and then a turn at the estimated altitude. Presumably this will eventually come to the FBW model.
