MSFS FPS In NYC

Featured Replies

I'd like to get and idea of how well the sim is performing for you in NYC. Is it smooth @ 30? What CPU are you using?

For me it used to be smooth about a year ago with my 1080P monitor & locked at 30 fps. I also set to hi-end and run with PG on. RC at 80 & sliders at 100.

I only want to get an idea of what CPU I need, because I'm blown away with what I'm seeing on the screen and want 30 fps instead of fluctuation between 20-30fps.

Panning is where fps drop, then stabilize to 25-30. I want to avoid the red. If it's even possible.

Thanks.

I get 44 FPS in Manhattan, by the Empire States building:

I am running 1080p, with mostly high settings. My Render Scaling is set to 100.  My Terrain LOD and Object LOD are also set to 100.  My Off Screen Terrain Pre-Caching is set to Medium.

There was a huge FPS boost after SU5.  For part of the FPS boost, MSFS can cull objects that are not in your field of view, to save on memory, which will boost your FPS.  However, this means if you pan around aggressively, objects that were culled may gradually pop in.  You can control this object culling with the Off Screen Terrain Pre-Caching option.  If you set the Off Screen Terrain Pre-Caching to Ultra, there won't be any culling, which may increase your memory usage and lower your FPS a bit.  Set the Off Screen Terrain Pre-Caching option to whatever you feel is the best compromise between FPS and the popping in of objects.

My computer specs are below my signature.

I did a quick search on Youtube of other videos in New York.  Here is one video of somebody running 4K with an RTX 3080, i7-9700K, and 64 GB of RAM, which is much more powerful than my computer:

The FPS is not displayed in this video, but it certainly looks above 30 FPS.

As tank said,

Set Off-screen pre-caching to ultra and that should fix the panning problem.

If your FPS drops when panning, you might want to set "Off Screen Terrain Pre-Caching" to Ultra. With 1080p this shouldn't be a problem.

Agree as well - Jose, try setting this to ultra as a baseline and and notch back as you test. Higher settings sometimes net better performance, which is a bit counterintuitive.

You guys are the best! I'm en route from Syracuse to KTEB and set Off Screen Terrain Pre-Caching to ultra. I'm hoping that I get better performance on arrival. I'll be BACK. LOL

Update:

WOW! How can changing from high to ultra make panning smooth again?

Thanks! I'm glad I asked. I thought that I needed a new CPU tomorrow. Now it can wait a little longer.
