Draw Distance MSFS (A Year Later)

Featured Replies

My problem with drawdistance is not with trees, but with airport objects like, taxiwaysigns,windsocks, any other airpor clutter that have very,very poor drawdistance post SU5. And the problem is also related yet to latitude since at Svalbard its poorer drawdistance compared to other places. Seen it at Lukla also. Houses popping into view when landing at Lukla. My settings are ultra. Very annoying.

Have you changed the Terrain LOD distance above 200 in the UserCfg.opt file?  Mine is set to...

{Terrain
        LoDFactor 3.200000
}

I find a Terrain LodFactor of 3.2 and a RenderScale of 120 to be a good balance between texture sharpness and level of detail for my system.

Why are you advising to edit the UserCfg.opt file when there's a slider than can accomplish the same thing? At 320, very bad performance.

Screenshot-74.pngAt 100. FPS acceptable an smooth.

Screenshot-75.pngYou can see that even at 400 it doesn't really do much.

I'm so used to going into the UserCfg.opt file I forgot the slider was updated a while back!  Can someone else chip in regarding your processor being up to the job?  Your graphics card and memory seem good enough but I don't know about your processor as I'm not as technical as many one here.

My system is similar to yours and I can run at render scale 120 and detail at 320 very smoothly.

I'm sorry to inform (for me) that my Bijan trees is the mod causing the drop in fps. Without it fps are significantly better even at 400. I still can't get the scenery all the way to the horizon.

It depends a lot on where you fly, in lowland areas around the coast in Sweden the draw distance is still bad for me too, but as soon as I get further into the country it gets much better, but it is still far from as good as it was before with the tree distance fix, then it was perfect.

I just started flying in VR and the bad draw distance is far more noticeable unfortunately. That’s using roughly the same graphic settings and the exact same LOD. Switch back to pancake mode and it’s definitely still not great, but it’s less noticeable.
