Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS) - Beta test

Featured Replies

Hi,

I wrote a RAAS module in lua, started for Prepar3D and adapted and completed recently for MSFS.

I'm looking for a few Beta testers to validate the product before a freeware release.

Prerequisite: it takes the registered version of FSUIPC7. Also a one shot preparation with MakeRunways utility.

If you are interested, you can drop me a PM 🙂

If you want to know what RAAS system is, see here:

No joy for me Roland. Downloaded and installed as per instructions.

Using latest FSUIPC7 and latest Makerwys -  created the csv file ( about 6800K) in the FSUIPC folder

added the AUTO entry in the ini file.

Basically, the LUA script does not load - I set up FSUIPC to log LUA individually - thge two other Lua scripts I have loaded properly and were logged. The RAAS did not load at all. I tried it in first position and last - made no difference. No errors, no sounds,

Tried it with and empty community folder and my usual - no difference

EDIT:  Disabled the AUTO load and assigned load to a joystick key as per your instructions.

when a/c is powered and I press key - I hear the OK message but I hear nothing else. I taxied across a runway - nothing - I attempted a takeoff from a taxiway - no message.

HTH,

Vic

ok, got it working - sort of.

I use a lua script hidBravoButtons to control the Bravo  TQ Buttons -  seems that conflicted with the RAAS lua.

Disabled it and was able to get announcements MOSTLY when expected. Got rwy messages when nearing crosses, got rwy length remaining during takeoff but nothing when speeding down the taxiway.

Really like it when it works -  also noticed that taxi speed seemed to affect when I heard the message - could easily get onto rwy before I heard the messages.

Hi,

Could you share more information please, is it visual or just audio warning? Is it compatible with all addons? Is it possible to release it without the need of full FSUIPC7?

Thanks a lot Vic for your feedback.

  • About the conflict with hidBravoButtons script, I have no idea of course, I'll probably ask on the FSUIPC forum. Where does it come from? I see it's a script from the author of FSUIPC
  • I'll recheck the "On taxiway" message when on high speed taxi out of takeoff roll.
  • I have set the taxi Approaching msg by a distance trigger (currently 25 meters from rwy edge). According that speed is not higher than 15 knots at the time you are near the rwy entry, it usually match. Obviously if speed is 30 or 40 knots, it can miss the good timing, but it's not realistic for an airliner.

As the real system, it provides only audio messages.

Is it compatible with all addons?

Obviously I can not answer to this one.

Is it possible to release it without the need of full FSUIPC7?

Unfortunately the answer is NO. It would take a complete recoding probably in C++ to build a WASP module.

John Dowson answered on FSUIPC forum about incompatibilty with other lua scripts and how to avoid them.

However, he suggested that hidBravoButtons is obsolete and not needed anymore, here is his comment:

However, you don't need to use the hidBravoButtons lua script any more, nor the Alpha script. These scripts were needed to recognise the buttons with ids > 31. However, FSUIPC7 now recognises up to 128 buttons natively, and has done now for a long time (since v7.2.0 I think). I suggest you remove the hidBravo/Alpha scripts, and update your assignments to use the actual button numbers rather then the virtual buttons/flags that those scripts use

Hi Roland,

Auto-load didn't work for me either but assigning a joystick button worked fine.

I had the callout when entering the runway and a single further callout for "x" feet remaining.

Good program, can auto-load be fixed or is this a sim issue?

Auto load is a part of FSUIPC mechanism. Solution is probably in its documentation.

There is a lot more to test in RAAS during approach and final 🙂

Actually figured that out while debugging the issue.

By the way I'll increase a bit the approach announce distance. But I can't put a lot in case of parallel runways, and also in smaller airports when the taxiway is really close to the runway.

With the old version - followed the auto install by the book - no joy - RAAS will not load.

Took a flight from KBUR-KSAN using manual load and everything was as it should be, on rwy, distance, crossing points, etc - all worked as expected.

will download the new version and continue.....

Which aircraft do you choose for testing?

I'm using the CRJ, and adding the command in  [Auto.CRJ] section is working here.
