Update wants to do a reinstall 130 gigs

Featured Replies

This has happened to me the last few updates, I'm logging into the xbox update, windows is fully updated, I go to the MS store and do the small update in there for MSFS, no issues.  I open MSFS, its searches for updates and then pops up with a 131 gig download.  Last few times I just said yes, walked away for a few hours, then have to go and redownload all the world updates and other marketplace items.  I currently do no have any aftermarket downloads in the community folder, just running a stock MSFS since it was launched.  My install path is all default and I've got it pointing there.  Will post a screenshot when I figure out how.

Having MSFS installed into the default Path has been problematic for a lot of users.  It is strongly recommended you have the main files on a custom path. For example, C:\MSFS or on another drive.

I had this but it was 114 GiB & I tracked it down to running Advanced SystemsCare with Registry Cleaner boxes ticked, after using MSFS.

Somewhere in the ASC cleaning process it was taking out part of  logging into MSFS  & putting MSFS into an update loop, even though the Asobo files were in File Manager & hadn't been deleted.

From reading further, I learned that cleaning the Registry can stuff other processes & files.

Interesting, I do have Avast Cleanup Premium install and its automatically doing cleanup working including registry items, latest statistic says its fixed 1331 broken registry items.........

Well I disabled Avast Cleanup premium from doing any registry fixes and I'm letting the full 120 gig download install.  Guess I'll find out if it works when the next sim update hits.

I predict your problem is now solved.

I removed ASC completely & have had no more 'upgrade' cycling.

As an update, after removing Avast cleanup pro when I went to install SU 9 I'm happy to report it only wanted to download the required update so the fix worked.  Thank you all very much.
