I have 60ghz monitors but need to buy a new one as one failed today.

would getting one with a higher refresh rate make any difference in MSFS?

Unless you can manage to get higher FPS, no. What matters most is if you can get one with G-Sync.

Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .

If action games yes but if your PC can only manage 35 FPS in MSFS, then no not really for MSFS.  Aside from action games there may be advantages elsewhere though, including claims of reduced eye strain. Maybe compromise and go for 75hz ?

More important is Resolution, HDR and freesync/gsync.

Note that if you frame lock/limit your game it can be good to try and make that limit the lowest frequency the monitor can handle natively so it does not need to flip into gsync/freesync.  For example most 60hz screens have a lower limit of 30hz but many 144hz screens cannot go below 46hz.  There seem to be a lot of myths around about 30 and 60 being some sort of magical frame rates to do with the way our eyes work.  But the truth is games were limited to 60 and 30 a lot in the past because those were the max and min frequencies early LCD screens could handle.

If you have the money, go for a monitor with real hardware G-Sync.

I have an AMD CPU and Nvidia GPU.

I assume I need the Nvidia sync as AMD free sync won’t work??

I have a 42 inch G Sync monitor and have to run it at 60hz with V Sync on and set to limit FPS to 30 to get best performance from my system.

Well SOME approved AMD freesync monitors do work OK with Gsync cards. If you read reviews you get a fair idea if a particular AMG freesync monitor will work with Gsync or not.

However actual  Gsync monitors are of course guaranteed to work.

Sorry, meant 32 inch and it's too late to edit.

Indeed, but sure w/o Gsync the next best would be a monitor w/ various refresh rates including both 60Hz and 144Hz, so you can Vsync to 30FPS or 40FPS.

I use a 55" Samsung 4KTV and in the expert setting on the TV I set the "Judder Reduction" filter to its maximum value. I then run the sim with Vsync on at either 23hz or 29hz and its perfectly smooth i.e. it couldn't be smoother! I think TV's are a lot cheaper than Monitors too. Though, I don't think all 4KTV's Judder Reduction is created equal.
