March 24, 20224 yr Hi! I've had this 4K monitor for a few months and after being at 1080p, I was righteously blown away. Only until now did I think to get some help on some other settings that I should pair with it's specs. My main question is - since its 60hz, should I lock frame rates at 60FPS? Do I turn VSync on or off? I am experiencing stutters on a high end system (i7 11700K, 32GB Corsair DDR4 SDRAM 3200MHz, 10GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, GDDR6X) even with dialing down some settings to high, instead of ultra, I'm still getting stutters. This is with an empty community folder. Here are the specs of my monitor. Any help would be greatly appreciated! March 24, 20224 yr I guess this is not a G-Sync monitor. In that case try setting the in game V-Sync to ON and setting it at 30 ( which is half monitor refresh rate). Don’t set 60. Try that. I think you will be happy with what you see. And leave NVidia control panel alone, make the change in the sim settings menu. If so, as Greg suggests your best bet will be turning Vsync ON in-sim, and setting the 'divisor' (20, 30 or 60) at 30, which is actually interpreted as 30/60th of the refresh rate, or a frame limit of 30. The key w/ using Vsync is it becomes critical to be able to maintain 30 or greater FPS at all times because as the machine becomes unable to maintain this stuttering always ensues. If your display is able to run at 120Hz (as many do nowadays), you can then use the '20' divisor (20/60th, or 1/3 of 120Hz, translating to a frame limit of 40fps. You will be able to maintain 40 in many scenarios, but not all by any means, for example flying into something like Fly Tampa's KLAS, and many others, in a hard to process plane. This is why using 60hz w/ the 30 divisor, 1/2 of 60Hz translating to 30fps is probably the best you can do, especially w/ your 4K display and 10Gb of VRAM. And a rock solid 30fps is excellent, though at 40fps will be incrementally superior. Have a gander at these findings which should help you fine-tune your settings for best visuals w/o the need to stop and readjust in mid-flight: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/616552-why-studders-on-landing/?do=findComment&comment=4740694 Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. March 24, 20224 yr You can use the In game vsync as the two previous posters have mentioned or you can use RTSS (Rivatuner Statistics Server) or the graphics Drivers to lock the frames to your desired lock FPS if you know your CPU/GPU can handle higher than 30fps (like maybe lock to 40 instead) Mind you i do know you can lock the frames using Nvidia Drivers but i cannot state if it is effective in lowering the amount of frametime spikes (better frame pacing) while locking the framerate as i havent used their implementation in a while. In my case I have a slightly better experience with lower frame time spikes aka stutters with the graphic drivers drivers doing the lock rather than the Sim. RTSS gave me similar results but the less applications used in the background the better. So im locked at 50 via Radeon Chill with a vey smooth experience. Frames will drop at mainthread limted airports but they dont give me dramatic or noticeable stutters.. the frametime just goes up in a more gradual manner which is fine. Your at 4k so yeah i would not aim to lock higher than 40 fps unless your hardware is powerful enough to be pushing in the fifties plus fps unlocked in your typical use case scenario. If not .. Lock to 30 with one of the solutions available which are 1. in game Vsync 2. RTSS 3. Gpu Driver based Lock (test first to see which gives you the best experience in a demanding scenario like landing at LFPG or KORD) and be done with it. March 24, 20224 yr Leave the Nvidia control panel at default settings and try using high and ultra settings in msfs. Setting v sync and 30 fps max takes considerable load away from the GPU resulting in a much smoother and more stable experience Finally, bear in mind that whilst you were probably used to using a lot of anti aliasing, at 4k rez you will need to use very little, if any AA. Super helpful! Thank you! Im looking forward to leaving the office and getting home to tweak these settings. I've always thought there must be a missing link to why I'm not getting consistent results with my setup and I think my screen/video settings probably have something to do with it. I know I'm at a locked 60FPS, so right there, with your guys help, tells me I need to change that. Once again, thank you to everyone!!
