PMDG cockpit sounds not working

Featured Replies

New install....

Tried the 777 and 747. only cockpit sound is a low roar associated with engines (but not actual engine noise) and wind. no switches, engine noise (start up, power up, etc etc).

I looked in the settings in the FMC and couldn't find anything.

External sound is per normal.

Any ideas?

I think I have had this problem before. It was solved by reinstalling audio drivers. The sim doesn't like custom drivers for audio that is something I learned 😉 So if you've got new audio drivers try reinstalling what Windows suggest instead of what your headset / whatever audio device came with.

Drivers are drivers. PMDG routes its in-cockpit audio to a specific device, and if you load a different driver the device name or UUID may change. If you lose cockpit sounds for PMDG, go into the settings via the FMC and ensure the cockpit sounds are being sent to the correct audio device.

Cheers!

can someone give more details on where these settings are at in the FMC? I did not see them when I looked. thanks!

Also, this was a full clean install of windows on a new build. only default drivers were installed based on my motherboard.

I can’t remember for sure and am not at the computer, but they’re listed in the PDF manual that come with the airplanes. You can just look in the manuals and you’ll see all the setting explained and figure out how to set them appropriately from there. Might be quicker than waiting for someone to give the exact instructions.

Yes the settings for the internal sounds etc. are nested in the PMDG Setup part of the FMC. I imagine it's most likely in order to get round some of the limitations in the default P3D Audio setup.

It's also worth noting that it's likely worth having an extra sound device on hand (even if it's just a dummy), I've had trouble before with headphones where a loose connection causes it to disconnect briefly and messing up the PMDG sounds. Switching between sound devices in the FMC usually fixes it, but it requires you to have more than one enabled at the time.

PUT In the UK.
