GNS 430 lights up but no display in DC-6

Featured Replies

I downloaded the DC-6 from PMDG about six months ago, enjoy it tremendously and, like most others, I have experienced the typical GPS "coupling issues" with the AP. I've used the various workarounds until something more permanent is available. A few days ago, I took the ac out for the first time since SU9. Haven't noticed any issues reported like, loss of oil pressure, engines rolling back... nothing. bird handles normally. I went to load a FP in and wanted to "follow the magenta line"., but lo and behold, I can get no display on the GNS430. Press any button.. nada. .I ensured I had the latest mod as suggested elsewhere in the PMDG forum.. I can see the screen light up and the bezel lighting, but the display screen is blank. I tried with an empty community folder, and one that has worked in the past.. No joy. What AM I doing wrong?? Any ideas??? Many thanks in advance.....

P.S. I did post in PMDG forum, but after several days, no joy towards a solution.

Are you using the PMS50 530/430 mod? If so, have you got the latest version 1.0.49 that was released during the latest beta? It's needed after the SU9.

How does one know what version they have?? I did download some PMS stuff, not sure if this is the one you mentioned.  Thank you for replying...

Unfortunately this is yet another executable to download, but give the MSFS Community Downloader a try: NicolasConstant/msfs-community-downloader: MSFS add-in downloader (github.com)

It allows you to keep the GNS430/530 up to date and supports a number of other mods as well.

I did a flight in the DC-6 yesterday and the GNS430 was working fine.

Check in your Community folder, find the PMS mod folder and inside that open the manifest.json file in Notepad. The version number will show there.

Great, thank you for the info. I'll definitely try the downloader app.  I do use Addon Linker, and I think I misunderstood what Community downloader did. I appreciate the tip and will give that a try.

I opened the PMS file and the version number  is 1.0.49. Hmm. back to the drawing board..

Any circuit breakers popped?

None.. all are good. I'm even flying with an almost empty community folder. I only have the DC-6, G3000, "Statz" and AFC bridge modules loaded.

added info

This is what I'm seeing in the Community Downloader:

Pimarc PMS50 GNS530
Installed v1.0.49
Available v1.0.49
Release date 2022/04/02
Size 347.44KB

In case you're not seeing the PMS50 in the Downloader try "Add more packages" button at the bottom of the list of tracked mods.

Although it says GNS530 the package includes the 430 as well.

Maybe try downloading it again. Instead of letting it overwrite the current version, delete the current version completely and install the downloaded version in the same place. This is what I always do with most mod updates. I know with 1.0.48 that the 430 stayed black for me. It's possible that you had a corrupted download or something didn't get installed right.

BTW, I too use Addon linker and it's one of the best things to happen to Flightsimming.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll try replacing rather than overwriting and see if that makes a difference. I have two "files?" One is : PMS50-gns530.zip and the other is PMS50-gns530-master.zip. I did not place the "master" file in the community folder, but rather the PMS50-gns530.zip. I'll try replacing with a new download rather than overwriting. Will update... Thank you all for the helpful ideas..

You may have to reinstall the DC6. There are some files to delete, so best to contact PMDG fir instructions on how to delete and replace.

OK.. success!  I did have the correct version number, BUT I had both PMS50-gns530.zip and PMS50-gns530-master.zip folders in the Addons Linker. I tried either/or and found that  PMS50-gns530-master.zip folder is required to be in AL. I deleted PMS50-gns530.zip folder in AL and now I am getting the full display as expected. Thank you all, for setting me on the right path. Have a blessed day one and all..tp
