The journey begins...

A week or more ago I mentioned a convoluted and twisted flight I was planning around the world circumnavigating the continents.  I finished the flight plan yesterday and this morning will fly the first leg of 251 flights.  The first flight is from my home base of Roswell New Mexico to Monterrey Mexico.

Some statistics.

The flight comprises 251 flight plans and covers 98,932 nautical miles.  About 550 hours of flight time averaging 394 miles per flight.  The longest flight is an 890 nautical mile over the water flight from Hobart Tasmania to Milford Sound New Zealand.  The flight will take 4 hours and 40 minutes.  The shortest flight is from Fargo North Dakota to Winnipeg Manitoba; 180 miles in 57 minutes.

The flight will be made in my LHC Quest Kodiak averaging 180 knots cruising speed.

As soon as I rinse my breakfast dishes and put them in the dish washer I'll be on my way.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Enjoy, my friend.

Thats an epic journey... Enjoy!

Cheers

Day 5.  I just landed in David, Panama.  Tomorrow I fly to Bogota, Columbia.  A 3 hour flight at 19,500ft.  I'll have to pick up a bottle of Oxygen.  I depart North America and enter South America.

I don't sit at the computer for 2 or 3 hours.  I put it on autopilot and take breaks.  But while I'm in the cockpit I look at the scenery and try to find landmarks and close by airports that show up on the GPS screen.

I have installed P3Dv3 on my other computer.  My two computer desks face each other about 5 feet apart with my office chair in the middle so I can roll back and forth between each one.

I plan on loading P3Dv3 with Orbx North America scenery and lots of military air bases and aircraft that P3Dv5 won't accept.

Landed in La Paz Bolivia this morning.  Been acclimating to the high altitude of the Andes.  Flew from Cuzco Peru to La Paz Bolivia at 22,500 feet to clear the mountains.  Cuzco sits over 10,000 feet and La Paz over 13,000 feet.  Glad the Kodiak has a turboprop engine.

Tomorrow I fly to Antofagasta Chile at near sea level.  My high altitude flying and oxygen bottles are done until I hit the Himalayas in 5 or 6 months.

This morning I rounded Cape Horn and landed in Rio Grande Argentina.

Tomorrow my first long over-the-water flight.  Taking off and flying to Stanley in the Falkland Islands.

I have never flown to Cape Horn...would like to sim that one some time.  I want to do a South America tour at some point.

I made a scenery for FSX for the David, Panama airport.  I think it would work in P3Dv3 but you're well past that location now anyway.  It also doesn't depict the current (2022) airport as I designed it in 2007 when the terminal was much smaller.

Yesterday I flew from Stanley in the Falkland Island to Port Deseado Brazil.  It was a rapid flight at 12X slowing down to normal simulator speed about 30 minutes out.

This morning I am flying up the east coast of Southern Argentina.  Pretty desolate, boring country.  But I am maintaining normal simulator speed and doing other things (like writing this) on my other computer.

I don't expect things to get interesting until I reach Cordoba on Tuesday.

From Córdoba where do you intend to go? The nicest part is close to the Sierras...

Yesterday I flew from Cordoba to Buenos Aires.  I think I'll spend a long weekend resting up and explore Buenos Aires.  I'm going to have a mechanic take a cursory check of things today.  I have about 58 ours on the Hobbs since I left Roswell 22 days ago.  I'll continue on Monday to Puerto Alegre in Brazil.

This morning flew from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro Brazil.  Traffic was a bit heavy at Santo Dumas airport but after one go around I was cleared to land.

I'll probably spend tomorrow looking around Rio and then head on to Brasilia.
