Water and Oceans Quality

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was not around during 2021, only got on board MSFS a few mths ago, and maybe there's topics on this but I can't find one.

Is there an addon (free or pay) that improves the quality of the ocean/waves etc in the mid altitudes? Currently it looks like flat mirror with a very faint pattern. Down low at ground level it looks great.

It may be a known issue that is on the wish list, not sure, but from what I can see none of the third party weather addons seems to have replacement water textures like REX used to back in FSX days.

Not that I’m aware of, no. There are many aspects of the water (depth, coastal masks, inland colours) that I hope will be addressed in the short to mid term, either by Asobo or by SDK becoming more versatile.

Thanks, there seems to be a lot of localised fixes for water areas around different cities done but nothing on a much wider level.

cheers

The water did look better in early releases I know that much. Like mentioned hope we can tinker with the appearance soon..

Jorg and the team commented a while back on one of the earlier Q&A sessions that they weren’t happy with the water and had plans to improve it.

Perhaps another Q&A question is in order to see if they’ve got any updates.

Agreed. I've noticed that in recent updates, the water textures, mainly ocean, have repeating textures like they had in FSX. It's a real bummer, because early on MSFS, they weren't there. It breaks immersion when you look down on the ocean and it looks like a completed puzzle.

Oceans and most water bodies only start looking good when there is some surface wind. Then it does not look to bad. On calm days, water can be rather unimpressive and in the oceans, totally unrealistic.
