TOP GUN has broken some things

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Yesterday, i launched MSFS and it downloaded the 21 Mb update. I still now have the splashscreen with Top Gun stuff.

BUT  : no new plane installed, and not marketplace link in the menu (not a grayed link, the link is not there between Profile and Options). My account seems OK, i'm logged and online, my content manager seems OK with 426 items installed ans is showing the Community content with all my Orbx or Flighsim.to adds).

I also realise that Addon Linker has lost is ability to disable some links in the my Community folder (essentially the ORBX that i managed correctly last week, and yes it is working as administrator).

Any idea ?

There is another part of the update that must be installed.  Look in "activities" and you should find it.  That's how I installed it anyway.

You need to download it from the marketplace.

You  made out better than I did.  🙂  I have to say, the way some of these updates are rolled out makes you wonder.  Half store, half application, and then you have to know to press the big Top Gun activities, 10-ft interface button!   Who knew that's what would install the plane?  Wasn't mentioned anywhere.  I finally figured it out, but the upgrade had done enough damage already that I'm doing a re-install of a 130GB game tonight.  Who knows what I'll have to re-install, planes, aps, add-ons, etc.  Wonders never cease.  Sorry I'm a little snarky after this botched update.  Why do they insist on doing it this way without a process to roll back an update should it all go south?  Why force it on users in the first place who aren't even interested in that plane or anything F-15/18?

When you get into the game, on the upper left corner is a sign that says updates (and etc.) are available in the marketplace.

Well, I finally did do that, but was still greeted to a frozen 'loading a flight' about 2/3rd of the way through.  So for the 2nd time since I've owned FS2020, I re-installed.  Everything went ok.  Before I went to bed, I fired off 35 in-game updates.  This morning, everything appeared to be loaded okay, but you really don't know until you can get into the game and start checking all your add-ons and planes.  So I fired up the game again and after selecting a simple flight it started to load and then just stopped.  Now, I know I'm not alone, because I read other posts, by other users elsewhere on the internet, and they mentioned the same thing happening.  When you have a ton of sim sites you follow, it's very hard to keep track where you saw the posts (at least for me).  I can't recall exactly, but around Thursday last, is when I first did the Top Gun update and after that it broke.  Some FlightSim you tuber even mentioned the issue, but did say a fix was coming.  If that fix ever happened, during loading when it checks for updates, it's possible it was very quickly done and transparent to the user.  You wouldn't even have noticed it during the game loading process if you had walked away from your computer.  But obviously, I still have something broken, and at the moment have no idea where to start looking.  You can't simple roll-back an update like you could years ago with most well-written software.  FS2020 has tentacles everywhere on your computer. Sigh.

Since the download I am getting freezes and CTD's. I am thinking of uninstalling MSFS and going back to my previous sim. Every time I get my game running nicely an update comes along and causes grief.

Yep AOB, I know exactly how you feel.  FS is not only a single piece of software.  I've probably added 50 or more add-ons that include; new planes, new paint variants, map and flight planning utilities, weather /season enhancement, control software, plane profiles, map enhancements and the list goes on.  I even bought a Stream Deck last year, and all the related software profiles, icons that go with that product alone!  Like you state, I keep tweaking to make sure I'm getting the most out of the software, and this happens.  I'm not a happy camper at all.  In fairness, not everything has to be totally re-installed, but you still have to go through the process of making sure they still all work as intended.  And that simply takes time.  And how can that been done if the program hangs?!  So, it's no joy that a (mandatory) update comes along, and ka-boom!  A lot of the work gone, or at least needs to be rechecked.  At least I could quickly check my logged hours and they are there and correct.  Don't know about all my planes though.

Maybe you and I are the only two simers out there with issues?  🙂
