July 21, 20223 yr I took a quick look, today, at the top downloads in the library, for the last (2-3) days' listings, and here, below, is a sample of the a/c that caught my attention there, which (apparently) have also caught the fancy of my peers and enthusiasts in the community...a sign I always respect. The a/c images shown, below, are in the order of the citations listed. Hope you enjoy this diverse collection of pictures or/and the brief notes about each a/c. [2 Pics] TAM Brasil - Walt Disney World Special - Boeing 767-330(ER) [2 Pics] FedEx has 115 767-300Fs In Service, and 37 more On Order, so, FedEx, to put it mildly, is really fond of the 767F... (Note the proud "ETOPS 767" marking on the Nose Gear Door of the first FedEx image, a (reverential) reference to the pivotal role the 767 had played in the development of ETOPS standards....When Boeing’s director of engineering, Dick Taylor, had first approached FAA administrator Lynn Helms in 1980, Helms had responded “It’ll be a cold day in....before I let twins fly long haul, overwater routes.”...Oh well...it was the Boeing 767 that eventually had changed his mind, and the world fleet of 767s has recently completed its one millionth ETOPS flight...! [1 Pic] B767-300ER (N36NE) in the colors of New England Patriots was painted to celebrate the Patriot's sixth Super Bowl win (2019) ... (Notice 6 (symbolic) Super Bowl trophies on the tail and 6 stars above "PATRIOTS" name on the fuselage). This 767-300 was previously owned by American Airlines, and is now operated by Eastern Airlines, an airline of the same name as the famous airline of the yesteryears, but actually a different airline. [For a likable (2m:11s) video of this 31-yrs old (RW) 767, please search for, "New England patriots Boeing 767-300 (N36NE) operated by eastern airlines departing 06 at SNN/EINN". I suggest Audio Volume "up" to appreciate the sound of those GE engines, especially for the takeoff bit (1m:25s to 2m:00s).] [2 Pics] Florida West International Airways, Inc. was an American Cargo and Charter airline based at Miami, Florida. The airline later became a subsidiary of the Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings. It operated two 767-300Fs between 2001-2005. [3 Pics] Two Classic (and Experimental) colors of the Pan Am DC-7Bs. Notice N51704 "Blue Tail" has White Globe on a Blue Tail, and N776PA “Clipper Nonpareil” has these colors reversed i.e., Blue Globe on a White Tail. The B series DC-7s were considered the fastest of Douglas propliners. Douglas and Lockheed competed fiercely for this market with (DC-7B and DC-7C, Seven Seas) pitted against (L1049G and L1649A, Starliner). But that would be in vain because these stalwarts of transoceanic transport were really the last hooray for the large (long-haul) propliners, to be soon overtaken (and supplanted) by the emergent jetliners, such as the legendary B707. [3 Pics] This a/c is a rare sight and treat (which I fortuitously came across among the popular uploads of this week, as if in a timely response to the wish for a sighting of 747-100 by Andy1252...🙂...see the recent post "747 - bumpy weather..." here...). This was the very first 747, Prototype RA001 (#1), originally registered N7470, a 747-121, christened City of Everett, after its hometown where it was built, which ushered in the era of the jumbo jet. One cannot hope for any more of a classic (and original) 747 than this RA001 Prototype. Notice the marking "RA001" on the Nose Gear Door, in the ground image. A total of 168 747-100s were built; 167 were delivered to customers, while Boeing kept this original prototype, City of Everett. It completed its maiden flight on 9 February 1969 (the same year, few months later, first humans landed on the Moon). Boeing’s last four 747s (747-8F freighters) are expected to be delivered this year to Atlas Air, thereby pulling the Final curtain on the iconic 747 production line that was started by 747 (#1) RA001, after 1573 747s been delivered to customers. [3 Pics] The 747SP was indeed a special plane.... some say it was "ugly" and some say it was "cute" as a baby elephant is...🙂...so, looks like, and as they say, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder...Originally designated 747SB for "Short Body", it later was nicknamed "Sutter's Balloon" by employees after 747 chief engineer Joe Sutter. Boeing later (officially) changed the production designation to 747SP for "Special Performance". [4 Pics] Lufthansa Airbus A380-841 (D-AIMG) ...I can never stop marveling at the massive sight (in the virtual world too) of this modern "Superjumbo" lifting off (see shots below), a stupendous example of a modern machine, just as the iconic 747 was, one day.... BTW, as stated in item 6 above, with the last four (Boeing 747-8Fs) being delivered to Atlas, not only are we witnessing the end of the 747 itself, but it also represents the end of the entire (4-engined) jumbo production era, coming just a year after the Final Airbus Superjumbo A380 airliner rolled off the line in Toulouse, France, in February, last year (2021). The Final (123rd) A380 was delivered to the Emirates. Both the "Jumbo" and the "Superjumbo" will of course continue to fly and grace the skies for now...for aviation enthusiasts and professionals alike, with their current operators, including Lufthansa who have 19 747-8Is in their current fleet...(if you wish, please see an excellent/recent LH 747-8 post here)... Thanks for viewing and good flying...!! Edited July 21, 20223 yr by P_7878

That really is the one for me. Somewhere in my magazine collection I have a special just on this one model. I don't like the extended/long versions of any of the major airframes, to me the originals were designed correctly and the constant "cut and shunt" approach to enlarging them always detracts. So my preferred 747 would always be the -100. Except for the -SP, which not only looks a lot better to my eyes but by all accounts was a real pocket-rocket (assuming big pockets, of course). Same reason my perfect Airbus is the 318. I'd love to have both / all three of these for MSFS. Wonder if the -SP would fit throught the base of the Eiffel Tower? Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used
July 23, 20223 yr Author Folks: Many thanks for the wonderful comments...!! pmplayer, yes, FBW A380 in MSFS will be surely a blast, and the good thing is that many of you having already mastered the FBW A320, will probably find the cockpit commonality comforting...🙂...virtually speaking, of course... [Andy: Noted your wondering ambition combining the 747SP with the Eiffel Tower....🙂....]
