September 10, 20223 yr XP12 is downloading ! At last ! I've been all of the posts at the AVSIM forums, about XP12, XP12 vs MFS, MFS vs XP12, ... Being away from the home PC is at the same time good to avoid he stress if installing and testing a "new" simulator, and stressing when I keep reading all sorts of messages and trying to make my mid about X-Plane 12. I confess I never ost hope in LR, starting with Austin, a person I have to have in very high / good consideration becuase as much as he sometimes can look a bit full of himself, that characteristic is probably what brought us X-Plane, after he started it as a personal Project and decided to make it publicly available. As I write this message at the loal coffee shop ( 🤪, no, not like the ones in Holand !!! ), XP12 is downloading in the home PC. It was not an easy buy. The purchase refused my Credit Card twice ? Was this a sign fr om the Universe that I should keep loyal to MFS only ? I had just pushed the latest update of MFS before I tried purcasing XP12 for the first time 🙂 Well, time will tell what XP12, and MFS, will be in my simmer life, but I sincerely believe they're, for the very 1st time, start a cycle of joy & investment in two concurrent platforms at the very same time !!! And latter today I'll push the latest IL-2 Great Battles update - Normandy - released this week ! I know the three sims have a "place in my simmer hard", and I am grateful to their dev teams for all of the excellent simulation moments they have been providing me, each on it's own. My plans for XP12, after initial install & confguration, will be to try out the updated version of the Toliss A319, the default aircraft and try the only two payware helicopters I had for XP11 - UH-1H and Bell 412 which I am not sure if are already compatible ? Then I will try to push a modified AS K21 glider from the .Org and make some tests with the new thermals and the flight model. Some basic maneuvers like forward slips, stalls, lazy eights... will keep me occupied. I look fwd for testing the new Real World Injected Global Weather ! I am sure I will Praise XP12 as much as I do MFS and IL-2. 👍 Cheers 🍺!!!! September 10, 20223 yr Author Ah ! Great Beerz !!!! I can still remember the LAMA flying under the colours of Portuguese Air Force, as well as it's bigger brother - the Alouette 🙂 A sure buy for me !!! Meanwhile - my initial report: - PERFORMANCE: with pretty most everything maxed out, impecable performance in my Ryzen 5600x and RTX 3060Ti ! - THANK YOU Alec for the rig you carefully helped me building last year for MFS ! It now serves 3 amazing sims - XP12, IL2, MFS ! Tests were made with only default aircraft, mostly the C172, the Vans RV-10, the Cub, the A330, and the K21, with and without dense weather found through BadBadWeather. - SCENERY: More than enough for my use of XP, whch is mostly procedural, although MFS will most probably always be my sim of choice when soaring tasks are my objective and specially after the upcoming Soaring. MFS excels in terms of scenery realism ! but XP12 is more than acceptable, and I might try Orthos, although I really don't think I'll go down that route... - FLIGHT: I liked each aircraft I tried, the 330 being the one that felt more "strange", and I did miss proper Airbus systems, namely A/T, FMGC, etc... The handling wasn't bad though, I believe ( ? ) I did manage to spin the default C172, something I am not able to do with the default C172 in MFS. - WEATHER: The tests I made from airfields chosen based on the reported bad weather METARs were very convincing, surely not inferior to what I get from MFS. Cloud rendering is different, but feels ok the way it is, and I believe it'll be fine tuned later, if not by LR by tallented 3pds like the author of the Enhanced SkyScapes. BTW: There used to be a screen output option that exhibited the kollsman window settings on the aircraft altimeter. Now I can only display METAR data e weather variables at the present aircraft position. I miss being able to see in that screen output what is being set o the altimeter because it is sometimes very difficult to read it there 😕 - ATC, Traffic and AI: Didn't test it yet... Now downloading IL-2 Normandy update - 3 yrs waiting for it !!! 🙂 Edited September 10, 20223 yr by jcomm Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

September 11, 20223 yr Author This were my first two requests regarding XP12. Sen't it to Austin this morning. I will report back any additional information I receive from him: XP12. request.1) I am very happy with the new Moon and correct phases !!! Thank You so much Austin ! I have actually tricked XP12 (as per Murmur's suggestion... ) to think the date was somewhere in 2023, and the Moon was at the right spot and in the right phase ! But there is still no way to define, in the Flight Configuration menu, a full date in the form : YYYY-MM-DD. We can just set day and month, although internally now X-Plane correctly makes the necessary calculations. I know the reason is probably because then someone might ask that the weather, if set to Real Weather, would have to be historically correct to, but that's not simulated by default in any other platform, although in XP11 and FSX / P3d Active Sky allowed for it, anyway it would be great to have that possibility, specially now that X-Plane correctly computes "Sky Objects". Could you plan to introduce the full date setting in the Flight menu ? XP12.request.2) Austin, in the Data Output options there used to be, in XP11, a line of data that showed the actual altimeter setting that was dialed in the Kollsman window. Now we have a line for local METAR data and another line where some of the weather variables that are effective at the present aircraft location are shown, but there is no way to read the altimeter setting. For a guy like me with aggravating close vision problems, reading the altimeter setting was a LOT easier through that output line on aircraft with conventional, clockwork-type instruments. I miss that info, that you might add to the line with the actual meteo variables at present aircraft position ? Or maybe a separate Data Output line with the settings of all of the altimeters installed in the aircraft like in an airliner where there could be up to 4 altimeters, including the standby instruments, and these could even not be in sync ? September 12, 20223 yr 14 hours ago, jcomm said: This were my first two requests regarding XP12. Sen't it to Austin this morning. I will report back any additional information I receive from him: Two things I would like to see: 1) Localized haze/fog, or at least a generic fog/haze layer when there's low visibility; in XP12 the visibility goes back to max when above the first cloud layer, so if there's a broken cloud layer, the ground is perfectly visible in cloud gaps, even if the visibility on the ground is very low; 2) Now that XP has an excellent photometric rendering engine, it would be nice to model moon lighting for global illumination. As it is now, in XP12 a full moon or a new moon do not show any difference in lighting levels; moon lighting is already simulated in FlightGear, for instance.
