The iconic Meigs to Midway

Featured Replies

Where it all began.  I miss this airport.  Made a nice flight to Midway with the FSLTL traffic running.

Least we forget, in 2003, it was Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley who had Meigs Field bulldosed illegally in the middle of the night with no notice, stranding several aircraft...  I believe Meigs was a default airport in the early days of MS flight sims - I "flew" out of there many, many times back then...

Yes, correct on all points.  It was very sad.

Thank you kind sir.  I miss the old days, I mean real old days when Meigs was the default airport and everything was just wire frames but even then I thought it was so cool.  Ran it on an old Apple IIe with 64K of ram and thought this was perfection.  I never imagined where we'd be today.

Wonderful series of pictures of the iconic place, Jack...!!

[Haven't been to the Downtown or Navy Pier area in a year now...used to visit quite often..maybe I should, after viewing your pictures here...Also, occasionally used to take Southwest 737s from Midway .... drop-off/pick-ups were more common...]

Thanks P_7878!  I’ve never been there in real life, it must be a nice area to walk around.
