Raptor Lake - Smooth MSFS performance

Recommended Posts

since you asked: while it doesn't show MSFS, I bet the 7900x3D will beat the i9-13900K hands down since even the lowly 5800X3D either beats, is equal or very close to the i9-13900K steam hammer. note how nearly invisible Intel marketing painted the 5800X3D bar, just a tiny eeny weeny teeny weeny unobtrusive strip.:

Didn't see that before, but I'm fairly sure it is one of those fake channels (there is one called "Testing Games" which is definitely fake for example). Despite being a very small channel, they have supposedly acquired a staggering amount of hardware the past month (13900K, 13700K, 13600K, 7950X, 7600X, RTX 4090, Arc A770, Arc A750) and managed to post footage with the RTX 4090 three days before the embargo. It is unlikely to be a legitimate one, so I would ignore these results.

I thought that but I’ve been looking for benchmarks on youtube and they all show the same results. I don’t know, I’m confused.

I keep asking myself: is 25 fps on the ground during taxi really as bad as it sounds? all you do is taxi below 30 mph in 2D, not really much of a flight model required here. as soon as you take off, those AIs parked at their gates are out of sight, and AI traffic should be no factor, fps back to normal, i.e. lousy 50-60 in your case?

If it were for 2D alone I could live for another year or two with with my present machine, but it's VR where I'm at the limit right now.

Kind regards, Michael

😂 No need for that, lol. You mean the Avsim thread? I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: I have to idea where that thread is. Too many threads! But I think @bobcat999 linked to it, so you could go look through his posts 😉

affirm!

it is stunning, given the right hardware, what MSFS is capable of. the result is worth every penny that you have spent on this, looks just like the LIFE airport cameras on youtube. did anyone ever think this would be the result 2 years ago when MSFS was launched? they said : wait till the heavy addons arrive, your fps will suck. well, the opposite is true. the stutter free smooth animation in your youtube seems unreal, flight simulation at its best!

ooooooh what a lucky man he was. "Whoopdeedoodahday"

Apologies to Rob aka bobcat (or is it just Bob?), it was Steve that referred to the post with that youtube video earlier today. Unfortunately I still have no idea which post. I mean - this is silly. Anyhow, I'm making another video per another request of a Fenix approach to KLAX. If I can just remember how to retract the landing gear in the thing...

I don't think anyone likes hot, but not smooth.  But that's just a hunch 😉

I finally found the thread.

It was moved to the monitors section. There's also this thread which discusses the 4090. And this

I saw a whole lot of stutters which I *hoped* was just the video capture.

I think it was a bit of both, actually. DLSS3 is in it's infancy, it might (hopefully) improve with time.

On another note, the 13600K looks decent. Turbo to 5.4, twice the number of E-cores at a higher turbo, and a lower TDP than the 13900K. Of course there's also the price - $330 vs $660 for the 13900K.

Isn't 13600K max turbo 5.1?  13700 is 5.4 I think is what I read.  Do you think I would need a new PSU for any of these including I9-13900K?  I would do the 13900K unless a new PSU was needed only for that version and the other lesser CPUs not needing a new PSU.  Corsair RM 850W PSU currently.

I think 850W should be sufficient. According to this calculator you would end up with a recommended PSU wattage of 716W.

Thanks.  If I'm going to upgrade it will be to 13900 or 7900X and DDR5 if it's available.  Right now it's really running great so not in a hurry at all.  Even so one of those processors will be a better match for my GPU.

So torn..... It seems probably better to go AMD 7900X DDR5 and maybe wait for the 4800 16GB and you have an upgrade path but you will pay upfront for that option or 13600/13700 forget the 13900 and maybe go DDR4 and say it will give you 3 years of good performance... I am still on a 6700K 1070GTX at 3840 x 1440 so I need to have a change... I do hope we get a few more videos of the Fenix at EGLL or KLAX with the different processors... My montor is 60Hz so if I could get 60FPS that would be the dream...
