Don’t know if It exists, but I would like to see a comparison between the 3090 and 4090 both running in TAA mode.

Then we can see how much more fps the 4090 delivers.

DLSS 2/3 are ways to get higher fps at the cost of quality

There's already several posts about this subject so maybe it should be joined to one of those. Plus this video is sponsored by Nvidia which kind of voids any objectivity.

Personally though I think DLSS 3 is pretty cool especially as it has just been released and will no doubt improve.

Good but, not magic. Certainly not reason enough to upgrade.

As a 3090 owner running at 1440p I'm CPU limited, so that's my next upgrade.

Remember you need really high frames to start with for dlss3, in the region of 120fps - otherwise you will see artifacts in the image.

Is there a technical source or reference for this claim? Not saying I don't agree - I just don't know and would like to confrm.

I'm not a fan of DLSS, but it's nice for it to be there JUST IN CASE. I cannot imagine most people wanting degraded visuals, I mean aren't we spending all this money to increase visuals. In the end, it's a dirty upsampling trick, and they've already hit the threshhold of quality I believe. I don't think it will improve other than some of the animated side effects they might clean up or improve upon (like shimmering). I don't think they CAN improve the visuals much further with DLSS, since the golden rule applies (garbage in, garbage out), and if you are rendering internally at a lower resolution, well...

Love all these 4090 videos with a default cessna or something. Never in cockpit and NEVER showing a high fidelity plane at a big airport with loads of traffic. Just beggars belief.

It's called "marketing"...

AMD 5800x | Nvidia 3080 (12gb) | 64gb ram

it should also be magical - in Europe the cards cost between 2200 and 3500 EUR - for that price I also expect a bit of "magic" to be honest !!!

AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D , watercooled, GeForce RTX 4090, RAM 64GB Kingston Fury 6000Mhz , Fractal Design 7 XL, MSI X670 Carbon, all SSD

The “magic” currently doesn’t fix any CPU bottlenecks. It definitely works best at higher FPS like 65-75 and there is artifacts when you pan around.  It will increase your MainThrd ms timing when it’s on and actually lower your FPS in game a little but the graphics card is displaying extra frames.

In 4k it’s not much, maybe 5-10 FPS. With high end VR it’s doubling FPS. It will do 8k resolution at 30+ FPS.

So many opinions on this GPU, it's insane. And so much speculation. Did the 3090 get the same amount of heat upon launch? Can't remember.

In terms of raw performance / rasterization, it's faster than the 3090 for sure. 52% more CUDA cores than the 3090 Ti and a much higher boost clock.

This translates into about 30% higher fps due to raw processing power, according to my own benchmarks. Of course this won't help in main thread limited situations. It does help though to further increase the image quality (crank up screen resolution, shadow maps, render scaling, clouds, texture resolution, anisotropic filtering, ambient occlusion, reflections). Coming from a 3090 though, you're probably already able to have these settings maxed out.

Enter DLSS3, the main reason I got this card. It's been described in all sorts of derogatory ways, lol. A "dirty upsampling trick" though? Why not go all out with the swear words? Oh, you can't because of word not allowed.

I think of it as a rather elegant way of increasing fps in tight situations. It does introduce some distortion, but IMO it's not game breaking. It does not increase stutters though. There’s significantly less low fps % vs the 3090; 3% vs 33% according to my CapFrameX comparisons.

I've posted some videos, but they don't do it justice as the video capture itself introduces stuttering. That and the fact that the max video frame rate with Xbox game bar is 60fps.

IMO DLSS3 comes into play in the most demanding situations where current hardware struggle: major hubs, payware addons, heavy cloud settings, lots of AI traffic. With DLSS3 these situations are no longer a stutterfest.

As I'm typing this I see that travelrunner has replied. Will be interesting to see what he has to say as he came down pretty hard on the DLSS3 distortions.

Sure, but once you pair the 4090 with a newer gen CPU, I doubt there are stutterfests with it off, not usually. So therefore, it becomes kind of unnecessary to reduce visuals to gain the FPS. A dirty upsampling trick it is indeed, the only reason it doesn't look worse than it does is because we are at such high resolutions that is difficult to see all the artifacts it is inducing. That said, in the end, a lot of it depends on your viewing distance probably. I am using a 43" screen from about 3 feet away, so it's probably easier to see it.

It's more needed on my own card, the 3080 - 12GB, now I could actually use DLSS, but instead Nvidia decided to make an improved version that only works with the newer cards.

That video shows Cyberpunk 2077 initially running at 35fps. Why are we not seeing image problems when DLSS 3 is enabled?
