Super-carrier USS Gerald R Ford arrives in UK.

That's a BIG ship. With lots of F18's on the deck.

Maybe we should steal it and keep it for our navy?

At 17:17 loads of American people disembark so they can head to the local fish and chip shop for cod and chips with lots of salt and vinegar. Or maybe a battered sausage.

Maybe you should first check on the defensive capabilities of the carrier battle group  🙂 . Just a thought.....

Good point. To be honest, it is rather big, so I think it would probably get in the way. And those F18's look a bit complicated. And then there's that nuclear reactor that sounds a bit scary.

Not sure stealing the whole thing would be a good move diplomatically but perhaps somebody could pop over and ask if they've got a spare aircraft carrier prop shaft we could borrow.

Just take it at night. No-one will see it being stolen then... 🙃

Oof! Harsh, but true.

Not to sound ignorant, but does GB's aircraft carrier have a bent prop shaft, implying that it has a screw loose?

There was a propeller shaft seal issue, but no big deal. They are new ships, so bound to be teething issues, like all tech. It was during sea trials.

Prince of Wales had an issue a couple of months ago I believe, a coupling that connects the prop shaft to the drive shaft from the propulsion motors failed. Again, new ships, expected I would say.

Thanks for the information, Martin. I wrote that with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek....

BTW, I wrote "Not to sound i g n o r a n t..." what the heck, why is that word in the darn filter?  At this rate, soon everything will be "word not allowed" !!!!! 🤯

Oh yes, naughty word filters are a bit bonkers sometimes. I posted recently, that on a forum I used to moderate, the naughty word filter used to change cockpit into male chicken pit. 😆

It can be changed in the software though, by admin.

Embarrassingly, the HMS Prince of Wales suffered a prop shaft failure whilst departing  for major exercises with the US Navy, the Canadian Navy and the US Marine Corps. Oops. It did reach an island but only the Isle of Wight, not the Caribbean as originally intended.

Whilst talking about aircraft carriers, the USS Gerald R Ford arrived in Portsmouth recently with a huge number of aircraft on deck. It looked rather like a supermarket car park on Christmas Eve.  Most impressive but from the rather awkward angle from which the video was taken, they all looked like F18's, no F35's as far as I could see.  They are a bit similar from the back with the "V" tail fins mind you.
