New Reverb G2 Owner Thoughts

If you can go for a 4090.

My last upgrade was a RTX 3090, 10900KF and I still had to make a lot of compromises.  With the 4090, 13900k I am seeing vast improvement in VR.

I had no expectation that I would be able to set everything on ultra VR and get 50 fps, over NY City, without DLSS or re-projection. Butter smooth!

Omg, really? Which HMD do you have?. Its just a few months since I bought a 12900KF with GTX3080ti and paid around 6000$ to run my reverb G2 and Im not really satisfied with performance. Now your statement makes me envy you, and Im almost willing to make an upgrade again. My wife is gonna kill me:p. And I fear if I make an upgrade again now, some word not allowed third gen HMD is gonna show up from nowhere and the vicious cycle will repeat:p

I have a G2 as well. I am not exaggerating my performance boost for for VR. I can hardly believe it myself.

I’ve thought about newer VR headsets coming as well, but it is worthless to get a higher resolution headset if you struggle with the G2.  I can run the G2 at a much higher resolution by upping the reader settings past 100%, but then I will start to need to use re-projection.

OpenXR Tools Settings:

Preview Runtime = ON
Render Settings = 100%
All other settings are off

VR Settings:

DX12

Anti-Aliasing = TAA

Render Setting = 100 (3160X3088) ** The HP Reverb G2 native display is 2160x2160 ** I bumped up the render setting for additional clarity, but it’s not really needed while using TAA. I can bump the resolution to well over 4000 x 4000 but of course I will start to lose FPS, but the clarity is beyond belief. 😳

AMD Sharpening = 100

Reprojection = OFF

Nvidia Reflex = OFF

Global Rendering Quality = ULTRA
, FPS=48 fps at heliport, 60fps while flying over city.
Global Rendering Quality = HIGH-END
, FPS=60 fps
Global Rendering Quality = MEDIUM,
FPS=65 fps
Global Rendering Quality = LOW-END,
FPS=83 fps

I have not done any tweaks to my computer or MSFS at all.

How balanced is your load GPU % utilization vs CPU main thread utilization? Or.. are you primarily CPU or GPU bound with your rig into the Reverb G2?

I regret reading this thread, because you just convinced me to get a GTX4090:p.

Now I just wonder if I need to upgrade my intel 12900kf to a 13900kf or if I can get away with just an GPU upgrade. Any thoughts?

And sorry Ryan for hijacking your thread..

while you are at it: why not get a decent VR headset to match your GPU, like Pimax Crystal or Varjo Aero 1.599 $ - 1.999 $, a little christmas something 😅

AMD 7800X3D, Windows 11, Gigabyte X670 AORUS Elite AX Motherboard, 64GB DDR5 G.SKILL Trident Z5 NEO RGB (AMD Expo), RTX 4090,  Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 2 TB PCIe 4.0, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD 1 TB PCIe 4.0, 4K resolution 50" TV @60Hz, HP Reverb G2 VR headset @ 90 Hz, Honeycomb Aeronautical Bravo Throttle Quadrant, be quiet 1000W PSU, Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black air cooler.

60-130 fps. no CPU overclocking.

very nice.

What is holding me back from those is the need of base stations. That is why I like the reverb g2 with its built in tracking. My first headset was the rift but I hated the unconvinient setup so I replaced it with samsung oddysey and after that the g2.

not for Pimax Crystal, standalone inside-out tracking. that's the one I am interested in.

Ah, didnt know it had inside out tracking, will take a look. But so far Im pretty happy with the g2, just need a stronger computer to make it shine..

Are you finding DX 12 performs better or equal to DX 11?

Ive been testing a few things out and whats really odd is while i fly in TAA mode for the clarity and get similar frames as above, when i change to DLSS 3 the frames stay the same!

That cant be right! Not sure whats happening there but its not feasible at any rate due to the blurriness of the Fenix panels... i guess there is no way to fix  that while still using DLSS?

I'm thinking DX12 isn't the best for my rig...so will change back to DX11 - there didn't seem to be a noticeable smoothness others talk about...hmmmm

I didn't think DLSS 3 was available in VR. (But not a VR user yet so purely based on hearsay)

I'd also love to hear of their results.  I'm assuming they have a monster PC?  I can't imagine running 8k in MSFS at much more than 30 fps.

The Aero is very nice. It's very "unpixelly" and FOV is nice though there's still work to be done on the firmware I feel. I get 35-40 FPS with DLSS quality, mainly ultra/high settings. I'm not at the max resolution the Aero offers but am hoping to switch to that when Varjo add motion reprojection in a month or two. I mainly fly GA in VFR over rural areas and smaller towns. The other firmware update I'd like is a chromatic thing which might be to do with the lens inserts I use. Anything that's a fairly pure red/blue seems to jump out of the image like it's a few cm nearer. I find some white lettering a little fuzzier than I feel it should be too which could be related to the chromatic thing... then again I'm the kind of person who gets bothered about these things. Even if it was 100% retina quality I'm sure I'd find something to irritate me and distract me from actually enjoying the flying.

What I would also say is that I use to check UploadVR and RoadtoVR almost daily for years waiting for the next generation of headset that would hopefully deliver the quality/realism I was craving. I don't bother anymore. It's pretty much there with the Aero.

Oh and the cable is lighter than the G2 which I also have.
