I don't have the PSU to run a 4090.  And with the power cord issues I decided against it.  The reviews I read for the card I bought are all excellent....low power good temps 65C (under load).  That's cooler than my 1080 lol.  I've got an MSI board and I really like it.  So sad about evga but happy about the purchase.

I just built a new Ryzen 7700X system (with an eye towards putting in a 7x00X3D CPU in the new year when they start shipping). Was looking at a 4090 card at the time but just couldn't justify the huge jump in price so I "settled" on a 3080 Ti for now. 

I've got my VR sessions running pretty smoothly although I'm running render scaling at 80% (TAA mode as I just find DLSS too blurry). But I'm slowly increasing my settings between each session to eke out every last bit of detail I can. 

Will be interested to read about your experiences with the 4080 card once you get it as I may eventually spring for one.

your 850 watt is enough. according to NVidia.

I did read that.  However I presume that's for their FE cards.  I'm not sure what other card manufacturers do exactly.  I'm even slightly wondering if it'll be enough for my 4080 from msi (though I did purchase their base model)

According to MSI, you'll be fine with your 850W PSU.  And BTW, congrats on your 4080 purchase.  I mentioned in a different topic about a friend that happened to get the same gcard, upgrading from a 2080S.  He is beside himself with the discovered pleasure of his new found VR realm, his #1 joy is that at 45-60 fps everything is now readable in the cockpit without having to zoom in.  I too strongly considered returning my G2 right after I bought it, and that's using it with my 3080 ti. For me it took about three weeks getting used to it, and getting a reliable and accurate fit was something I initially wasn't doing right.  I imagine that once you acclimate to the sweet spot (and your 4080), you'll wonder how you got by for all those years without VR.  No joke...there's no going back to 2D sim flying.

i've been running a 4090 on a 850w supply for the last couple of weeks without any issues

I removed the rubber nose-shield from the face gasket.  It's just held on by adhesive that can be removed easily.  If I look ahead, I don't see the gap.  If I look down with my eyes, I can see out, just enough to find keys on the keyboard and see streamdeck buttons.

👍 that's the first thing I did when I bought mine. I also don't have any padding over my cheeks to help see down at physical controls

Makes me realize the deal I got on my 3080 a few months ago. I had no idea...It was on sale on Amazon for 800 CAD (under 600 USD). My G2 will come in January I think (Cybermonday sale). We will see how it goes. 

Ebay Aus had 20% off some of the 4090's (for 24 hours) a couple of weeks before black friday. $2,700 was the cheapest I spotted for a couple of Zotac and Inno3d brands

There really are rarely half-measures when it comes to MSFS and VR.

not necessary. dynamic foveated rendering via eye tracking is the magic key word here. it renders only a small portion of the total VR display at max. resolution, but you don't notice that because it is always rendered at max. resolution wherever your eyes are currently looking, as opposed to a monitor where your eyes will always see "the big picture" all at any one time. the human eye's limited peripheral vision is actually helping here.

If you can go for a 4090.

My last upgrade was a RTX 3090, 10900KF and I still had to make a lot of compromises.  With the 4090, 13900k I am seeing vast improvement in VR. 

I had no expectation that I would be able to set everything on ultra VR and get 50 fps, over NY City, without DLSS or re-projection. Butter smooth!
