Can real pilots automatically put flight plans in GPS?

Recommended Posts

We simmers have many aps that automatically put our flight plans into the GPS in MSFS2020.

Can real pilots do this as well?

Can they transfer a flightplan from Foreflight to there GPS in plane or must they always manually input it?

Ciao!

Nearly instantaneous Google search results:

https://foreflight.com/connect/garmin/#:~:text=ForeFlight connects to Garmin installed, and GPS data in ForeFlight.

The SD card method for the G1000 also works for the G3000 according to the G3000 user manual.

Airliners can download the flight plan and winds directly from their company’s  flight planning department to their FMCs.

Back in the old days I remember manually typing in routes all the way  from Europe to California and then in addition having to go back and manually type in all the winds, it would take over 20 minutes and you’d need a cup of tea afterwards.

Hey now. Calma, calma 🙂
A cool feature with newer Garmin products are the integration ("Connext") into all of Garmin's apparels. One click in the app, and my Garmin Pilot FPL is transferred to the onboard FMS (if avionics allow) and my Garmin D2 Air.  🤡

Ahh, those were the days when we used to navigate with the finger on an ICAO chart 😎

Ahh, those were the days when we used to navigate with a sectional on our laps and look out the window for landmarks.

I once got lost over the canyonlands of Utah.  No problem.  Just tuned in the Hanksville VOR and drew the bearing line on my sectional.  Then I did the same for the Grand Junction VOR.  Where the two lines crossed was where I was.  Only a few minutes from Canyonlands Airport.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.
