Google Pro Map Enhancement Mod

That's not the xp map enhancement though right?  That's straight ortho on your local disk drive?  The app thing won't give out that high res of data at least none that I can find.... maybe immediately near the airport but elsewhere its blurry.  Your image there looks like ZL18 or 19 ortho tiles.

Yes, ZL18 tiles.  Somebody else mentioned the XP version of the enhancement map had a higher detail setting so I dreamed!

My experience with the vanilla services is that where it’s good, it’s very good, but there are a heck of a lot of areas where it’s not good or even awful, a mess of dramatically differing resolutions,

  • I still have X-Plane12 on my system. Haven't run it for nigh on a year. Now, with the Map Enhancement Mod and SayIntentions both available in X-Plane, it just might be time to take another look.

I've been using the free mod since it first came out and the PRO mod for a year or so.   I usually use the latest BING images. The mod is very useful and makes most scenery much more life like.

Not that I can find.  I think medium is probably zl16 or so.  Maybe even 15.  It's just okay.  Far nicer than default though!

I fully understand you saying 'Not in the slightest bit 'flat' and almost indistinguishable from HDR10', because filters can massively improve the display, but they can't reach the same brightness levels as HDR10 whatever is used.

That's just it for me--I see certain lighting when I use HDR10 that is pardon the pun flat out too bright for the context it's in and it's hard to differentially adjust for that at least was for me, plus the cockpit was unworkably dark, necessitating some kind of filter on top.  My sense is if you were here looking at my display with HDR10 calibrated, and ONLY the detail filter w/ contrast in NCP at 75%, you'd also prefer the latter.  And by the same token my guess is I'd prefer your HDR10 on your display as well.  Unfortunately we don't get to view each other's displays!

I have never had a problem with bright areas blown out with either of the two HDR monitors I have used, and neither have I had a problem with areas too dark.  Something doesn't sound right with your setup.  The whole point of HDR is to have a higher dynamic range than SDR.

Was everything in your display and Nvidia settings reset before tuning for HDR output?

Yep.  The first time I did the calibration in Win 11 I forgot to reset NCP desktop color settings but after realizing that reset and recalibrated.  It seems like for you the calibration routine dials in perfection on your display in MSFS.  Def not the case here the cockpit is too dark, certain elements on the rest of the display can get cartoonishly bright, just not as good for my eyes and brain.  I readded filters to HDR10 and again, couldn't beat what I already have.

I apparently don't get along with the latest technology as I don't use DLSS FG either, and that is because image quality/stability is a definite loser for me.  I'm hopeful maybe someday it will be improved.

My guess is that it depends highly on the display. I have an OLED and HDR works really well. Also I'm using the panel for watching movies and series, and Dolby Vision looks awesome.

There's frequent DLSS updates - might be worth looking into.

Certainly begs the question:  should there be a different calibration routine for backlit displays?  Kinda makes sense except that the routine won't be able to 'sense' the backlight as a factor perhaps.  My LG is probably as good for HDR10 as any backlit display, and yet clearly the two OLED users are having a different experience than I.  Mind you it's not all bad, it's just the other is superior.  Next time I upgrade screens will look at OLED, though I had hoped micro-LED might arrive for PC displays before jumping into OLED and as my display isn't very old likely won't happen for a while so maybe will get that micro-LED screen after all!

That would make sense. Different technology vs a backlit LED, different experience, different calibration.

I've been enjoying this mod for a while now, and fired it up recently.

I'm using the basic, free Bing version which looks really good, but flying around the south of France, I'm seeing a lot of places where there are lines of different coloured terrain.  I assume different satellite imagery.  Is this something i'm just going to have to put up with, or is there a better solution?  I dont really want to go for the default scenery, I find even at the same LODs this gives much more crisp mountain textures.  I just want to get rid of the different colour lines.

Doesn't matter which map option you choose, there will always be variations in textures across the globe.  Still, much better than the often poor colours of default textures.
