Steam or Windows

No problems on the MS Store here either but then again: I only installed it once.
The Store updates used to be a PITA for many but I didn't encounter any problems.
Since a few months, updating is easy. The sim itself comes with a message that there is an update and it starts updating without going to the MS Store first like we had to do in the beginning.

Just be sure you install MSFS in a custom folder. I've heard people having troubles when installed in the default location which indeed is often caused by insufficient rights.

I've never used Steam but I read good things about it. The reason I went for the MS Store version was, that I already had a MS account.

It looks like the choice is yours.
Both methods have had problems reported about them, though for the Steam version, it seems to be mainly concerning buying addons.
The Microsoft Store version now works as it should have at the outset, with the only remaining problems with installation being carbon-based.

If there's a remote chance you want to play it on Xbox, you have to go for the MS Store. Otherwise I prefer Steam.

Both allow you to install the main folder of >120GB anywhere you want on your system, as this is being managed by MSFS itself. The Steam/MS Store install only contains the minimal base and the downloader/installer (about 1GB) which must be placed in a folder managed by Steam or MS Store.

Edit: If you're already registered with either Steam or MS Store, I'd just go with the one you know.

Hi, I'm also in the same condition as whoever opened the topic, these days I'll have a new pc and I don't know where to buy msfs. I've bought several games from steam in the past and often for updates of these and loading steam itself is often been hell! So I'll buy it on the official Microsoft store, having never bought from here, I want to try it hoping it's better than steam! Which then, since I will have two separate m2s, in the first I put the operating system and in the second m2 I put msfs.

I am looking to buy the Premium Deluxe edition or maybe the standard edition would be enough. Decisions.

From the past, Steam has caused less headaches for people when there are updates for MSFS.  In the past, there were issues with updating MSFS via the Microsoft Store.  Lately though, like maybe the last 8 months, I haven't noticed too many problems updating MSFS in the Microsoft Store.

Having said that, if you get an XBox, you cannot play MSFS if you purchase it through Steam. This is probably the biggest difference. If you don't plan to get an XBox, then Steam would probably be the better choice.
