What would be the best option for MSFS?

The first change I made when I started using the 4090 was to NOT lock frames.  Was working way way better without it.  I'm using TAA with FrameGen and 100 LOD and TLOD and using the "high" preset.  AA is off and setup 16x in NVidia CP.  Also have Re-Bar on Hags of course.

Hey all!

Looking to upgrade my PC. I am looking at it with 2 options. I would love your thoughts on which you think will help me gain the most performance.

Option 1

Complete new build with the following parts below. I would keep my 3080 for now and upgrade later by the end of the year with a 4080.

Total cost = ~$1,650

Option 2

Keep my current build and just buy a 4080 and build a new PC towards the end of the year.

Total cost = ~$1,750

i9-9900K O/C 5.0 GHz | ASUS ROG Strix NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 OC Edition | 32GB DDR 4 - 3200MHz | Asus Rog Strix Z390-E Gaming | Sabrent 512GB M.2 & Sabrent 1TB M.2 | Kaken X62 Cpu Cooler | NZXT H510 Elite Case

Note that I am running a 4k display 🙂

Thanks for your input!

I am going to come from a slightly different angle,

With regard to option 1 if you can I would avoid the Corsair 4000D case, I built a PC with an i7-12700K & 3080TI in that exact same case last year. While it is a nice case because it is quite compact I was finding temps were a little higher on the CPU & GPU than I would have liked. I sold that PC and built the exact same rig this time with a 3090 and I opted for a Fractal Design Torrent Case. If you have room it is a beautiful case (I put it on a small table next to my desk) It has 2 X 180mm fans on the front and 3 X 120mm fans under the GPU plus the power supply is in the top of the case so cable management is super easy. I would definitely recommend this case. Here are a few pics of my build, My 12700K is sitting around 38 Degrees Celsius (5Ghz on P-Cores & 3.9Ghz on E-Cores with an air cooler) and my 3090 is around 60 Degrees Celsius in the PMDG at FL370 over the English Channel. If I turn my speaker off I can barely hear the case fans or the fans on my 3090 & Noctua cooler

Interesting, thank you! Do you know if the 4000 Airflow is better? I feel like your case might be too big.

The 4000D Airflow is not a bad case, I liked the look of it but it is a more compact case and thus there is less room for air to move around. Just make sure you add adequate fans to get rid of the hot air and make sure you have a decent CPU cooler as from what I have seen the 13900K can get pretty warm. The pics make the case look huge though lol, if you have a store nearby that carries both cases go and have a look at them to compare side to side. I built this PC with the view to upgrading to a 40 series GPU or possibly a 50 series so I wanted to make sure the thermals were good. I also have an undervolt in place on my 3090 which also helps.

I went w the 7900x3d because it will outperform the 13900k and the am5 platform will prob get at least 1 or 2 more cpus gens on it. 13900k is the end of the line on that motherboard. At some stage have to do a platform upgrade so I did it now w AM5.
