That of all the things he could have picked for a current "worst thing about XPlane" to randomly throw into a thread about coming back to xplane, its actually proper funny he chose to put a C172 on a helipad at

when in X-Plane a simple check in a checkbox by anyone in the community will turn it into

And all the other sims would probably need most of their team working for a week or so to fix a similar issue. If they addressed it at all.

Well, it was only 3 months ago or so that

You could barely complete a flight because of the memory leak (XPD-13797)

all the weather stuff was 80% borken, including being able to see the powerlines through the clouds

The VR dashboard didn't work (XPD-13802)

All the 3rd party aircraft lighting was completely borken

TCAS wake turbulence was completely missing (XPD-12879)

Plus probably another 50 or so "show stopper" items that I block out because they were so painful.

So I do think it is fair to say that fixing XP12 issues from then to now has progressed at break neck speed - I pretty much expect the remaining ones to be signed off around 12.1X.

Yet despite all those, I was still

and

back in October and November last year and loving every second.

Hi,

and before all these issues existed just three months or so ago the network issue existed years ago, one doesn't need ocd to hunt them down either. Maybe fix old problem before creating new ones.

There is a few things I would say about that.

Probably the most important is generally be very very wary of people claiming they are aware of an issue and working on it. The org is absolutely horrific for this behaviour, but I see it here to. with certain issues lasting for years without anyone in Laminar having a clue about them because the go to answer was "download this mod/plugin", LR knows and wont fix it, or LR knows and is working on it. When the truth was no one had reported it for years and as far as LR was concerned any issue was resolved....

That probably isnt the case here because

  • Master-external visual networking

Is one of only 3 known issues remaining in the release notes. The other two being new stuff for the SDK and the airbus FMC.

But if if that isnt the issue, then the presumption should be that they dont know and arent working on it.

Secondly, generally it makes sense that networking would be among the last issues to fix, firstly because VR setups are already largely replacing many of the multiple display setups, dispite the issues remaining there. But also because it is such a small number of people such issues impact. If anything LR have always been absolute stars in providing very very niche features and keeping them going.

Lastly, on networking in general, I believe Tyler was their go to networking specialist, he moved on a year or two ago and everyone was sad to see him go. That put a big delay in things like multiplayer and other networking stuff they had invested heavily in but that weren't finished. Dont think anyone can say for certain what the future looks like there. If he had stayed I reckon all such issues would have been fixed years ago.

Hi,

I don't post on the .org, I only use it for files I need and are not available anywhere else. I've made sure L/R was/is aware of these network issues via email. Matter of fact the last email to go around was about "Airport Flow hang and then eventually a device loss error". Those included in the emails were Austin, Ben, Pikitanga, Pat738, Juan Martin and myself.

I would imagine the loss of their go to network guy is the reason for the delays. The main thing is it's being addressed.

To be fair, that wasn't what others were seeing and was likely caused by old, incompatible 3rd-party scenery.

To be fair, a microsoft update broke NZMF on peoples PCs around 12 hours after he posted it was only borken on xbox. Thats just to funny to ignore.

Also

1. gotta be a record.

2. still looks light years better on 100% XP12 default, stick ortho in the mix for any doubters (ortho4xp also handles those awful stretched textures I see on the mountain, eyes bleeding terroritory I used to complain about XP11)

3. Just generally, I've completely lost any patience for that kind of messing around, I just want to enjoy my flight sim without losing hours/days trying to repair things that should never have broken. XP12 is currently at that point in its lifecycle where I spend far far more time in both short and long flights just enjoying it, if that is something you want - come to/back to xplane.

I am an Avsim unicorn: I fly and enjoy both sims. No need to try to convince me. I'm happy to discuss either sim without trying to turn it into a "Sim A is better than Sim B" slugfest.

Enough of the comparisons of MSFS 2020 on this forum and vice versa!

I enjoy discussing flight sims, but since I don't own a copy of microsoft windows, and havent for a decade, I rely on comments by people such as you and turbomax to see whats happening on sims that only run on windows boxes. most everyone else seems to be in or moving to the categories of only using xplane or not tried it yet.
