February 24, 20233 yr Yeah, completely uninstalling and reinstalling is more like snake oil. The overwhelming majority of issues are mods and having too many, so-called "tweaks" and settings that don't enhance but the sim run poorly etc. Sometimes, it could be scenery that was not updated in months. In the early years of the sim it could have been a livery. This is why a big chunk of people (including myself) would have issues even after reinstalling, etc. I stopped doing it, put most NVIDIA settings to default (except a few) and a few other small things but its best to leave it alone. TLDR: Its mods, tweaks and settings usually. Glad to hear you're not having any problems. 7800+4090+64ram Just Flight RJ, 146 and F28, Piper Arrows ---A2A Aerostar and Comanche---Black Square Starship, Duke(s), TBM, Bonanza/BaronV2, KingAir---FSReborn FSR500---COWS Da42---FX P180, HJet & VJet---FlySimWare Chancellor and LearJet---FlightSimStudio EMB175 &P2006T---Fenix 320---PMDG DC6, 737(700+900), 777---C22J---Milviz Cessna 310 & Porter---SimWorksStudios Kodiak, PC12, Zenith & RV14---BigRadials Goose---IndiaFoxEcho MB3339+F35.
February 25, 20233 yr I actually reinstalled the sim this morning, after trying a number of tasks to remove a problem failed. I had previously installed SU11 Beta which ran without a problem so when SU12 beta came out I decided to install it. "Sure what could go wrong?". It installed fine and seemed to work but a couple of issues it brought up left me deciding to return to SU11. The problem with PMDG parking brakes meant the 737 would be left in the hanger for a month. There was also an issue with FSLTL ai traffic where floating for 3/4 the runway on landing, happened at all airports and seen others report the same on their developers Discord. Anyhow, I left the beta within the XBox Insider app, retarted the pc, ran the sim and it went through its update process to return to the SU11 state. Things seemed fine until I went to the World Map, I got graphic corruption when selecting a runway or parking spot. Sometimes the gate nr would display but most times I got half a box, the departure/arrival selectable options often failed to display or displayed far off on another part of the scren and moving the mouse over them failed to generate a clickable button. It was like some kind of screen scaling was going on. Reset all the sim settings, accessibility etc. Emptied community folder, reinstalled nVidia driver, used System Restore and went back a week, clicked repair in the Windows app control. Nothing worked. Re-joined the SU12 beta and map worked again, left beta and map failed. Something within the SU11 core had become corrupt. I felt I had no choice but to uninstall the sim, delete all folders relating to it I could then reinstall. Took a good 3 hours but all works fine now. If it didnt then the Windows format was being considered as my next task though I was fearful as some settings etc are stored on the Cloud. Glad it works now and I will not be testing a beta again Chris Ibbotson Edited February 25, 20233 yr by cj-ibbotson Chris Ibbotson AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3D / MSI AMD MPG x670E Carbon Motherboard / Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5090 Gaming OC 32GB GDDR7 PCI-Express Graphics Card / Corsair DOMINATOR Titanium RGB Grey 64GB 6000MHz AMD EXPO DDR5 / NZXT C1200 Gold ATX 3.1 - Fully Modular Low-Noise PC Gaming Power Supply - 1200 Watts - 80 PLUS Gold / 48” UltraGear™ UHD 4K OLED Gaming Monitor / 40" Philips 4K LED Monitor / Honeycomb Alpha Yoke / Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant / WinWing Orion Rudder Pedals c/w dampener / WinWing Ursa Minor Airline Joystick / WinWing Airbus MCDU
February 26, 20233 yr Here's the deal with the Beta and why Chris had to re-install the entire sim. The beta updates the .EXE file that launches the sim. It may also update some core sim files (the stuff that is in the "Official" folder). When one backs out of the beta, only the .EXE file is restored. Any changed core sim files are NOT restored. Sometimes this will cause issues (It did for SU11 beta, and it does for SU12 beta). The only recourse is to replace the changed core sim files with known good backups. System Restore will not help here. If one has the space, before joining a beta, make a backup of one's "Official" folder. If one decides to leave the beta, after doing so copy the backed up files back to their original location. Note that those with a MSStore installation in the default location may experience difficulties with this due to the wacky permissions that are assigned to those folders. ...jim ASUS Prime Z790-E, Intel i9 13900K, 32Gb DDR5 Ram, Nvidia 3090 24Gb, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB and 1 TB, Samsung Odyssey G9 Ultrawide 49" G-SYNC Monitor.
February 26, 20233 yr Back in the early days of PCs and tech support, after they asked you " Is it plugged in", usually the next thing the script said was " You will have to reinstall windows"....🤪
