@MrBitstFlyerthanks. How do you play around the visibility settings in visualxp? I believe this completely overrides the live weather visibility by the default weather engine.

Apart from turning on VisualXP downloaded weather I have not changed anything in there. 

 

Latest version of VisualXP - what a sky of vapour trails, stratus and cirrus!

XP with Zink enabled doesn't like VisualXP...

And some of those screenshots look strange. Way to go, methinks.

Strange?  Give us a clue! 

Until flight simulators look exactly like the real world, there will always be 'a way to go'. until then, I will continue to celebrate the advances clever developers are making.  To look at my sreenshots and only find negatives in the atmosphere depiction is 'strange.

Everyone (from the MSFS forums) is entitled to a (negative) opinion.  As long as it's only in the X-Plane forums.

First, I am not part of the MSFS forums. Far from it!

Second, to answer the main question, there are strange shapes in the middle right hand side of both shots. I also see some odd-looking shapes in my own VisualXP set-up. A work in progress, of course, and I am certainly not being negative about the product. It's early days.

You spurred me on to load up XP12 again. I loaded auto ortho with it. Wow. I took a real life flight last week, and this is the closest I’ve ever seen any sim come. 
 

What  other plugins do you use, that I should grab? Traffic? XP realistic? Global forests? Anything else?

What about the quite amazing cloud formations and shading to those clouds?  I see the odd shape too, but overall the realism is spectacular - I can see WAY past any oddity considering just how brilliant developers are pushing realism!

XP12
SimHeaven X-World - OSM and MSFS building footprints.
GlobalForests V2 (my preference is to use SimHeaven forests in areas with good OSM coverage, but GlobalForests elsewhere).
LiveTraffic (I use subscription based RealTraffic app to supply traffic to LiveTraffic, but free options are available in LiveTraffic options).
AutoOrtho - quality of the ortho better than I expected.
X-Camera
VisualXP - a great new plugin that can enhance the excellent weather/atmosphere XP12 gives us.

How do you use both at once? Just dump both in the custom scenery folder ?

Both in Custom Scenery.  I use xOrganiser to keep the scenerypacks.ini file in the correct order - also has different profiles.  I have a profile for GlobalForests use and one for SimHeaven use.  The UK is very good for OSM data, but areas of the USA are less so.  I prefer SimHeaven Forests where possible because the latest versions (V2.1) plots trees in towns and cities along residential streets, making them more realistic.
