it's been years still no long haul airliner

Recommended Posts

The iniBuilds A310 that shipped free with the 40th Anniversary update is certainly a decent heavy long-haul airliner.  It's 5,150nm range is right up there with the B767-300ER (4,625-5,725nm) and B767-400ER (3,820-5,500nm).

This opinion has been offered already in this thread, but it seems the diehards wanting a "heavy long haul" are not satisfied. It occurs to me that the likely answer to why MSFS has not offered an abundance of heavy long haul aircraft is economic: the vast majority of MSFS simmers are GA flyers and do not wish, or probably do not have the free time, to sit for hours at their PCs on a single flight.

My system specs: Intel i9-10850@3.6 - 5.2 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, 32GB  DDR4  RAMNoctua NH-D15 CPU Cooler,1TB Seagate SSD, 4TB Seagate HD, Windows 10, Asus 32 inch monitor, Saitek Yoke, Throttle Quadrant, Rudder Pedals and Trim Wheel     Sims: MSFS2020      Preferred Aircraft  Black Square Bonanza, and Baron, A2A Comanche, PMDG DC-6, Red Wing L1049

Conflating many unlinked thoughts there, IMO.

Who's to say the vast majority are GA flyers through choice?

Why is it uneconomic to develop a long-haul airliner when there are at least 7 payware ones currently in active development (A300B4, A300-600, A330-300, B757, B767, B777, MD-11)?

Who's to say that you need to sit for many hours to appreciate a long-haul airliner? Short hops in longhaulers exist commercially and in the sim, you can do whatever you want.

Personally, I think the current lack of long-haul payware airliners is due to the time needed to recreate these complex machines with relatively small teams. PMDG's 'excuse' is that they had the World's most produced airliner in their stable and it made sense financially to ready their 737 for sale in MSFS first.
