Although I live in Australia I do 99% of my FSX flying in the UK so some sort of cached scenery approach sounds like a real possibility. The download figures I quoted are fairly constant so I am now more optimisitic than I was before. As someone suggested I will do some research in the direction of cached scenery.. Thanks again, M MSFS is fundamentally different from FSX in several ways not the least of which is what comes w/ the basic install: avoid assuming you'll need to continue in that legacy behavior we all learned in FSX/P3D that you need to buy addon scenery. Sure, you can upgrade to free or payware enhanced airports but in very large part everything is excellent out of the box w/ nothing upgraded. That is a stark contrast to FSX/P3D which demands large area scenery enhancements along w/ airports. You'll be pleasantly shocked at how it performs compared to FSX in particular. You'll want to be sure your CPU is delivering the best it safetly can as the sim remains mainthread limited. Be aware MSFS has one set of weather - live weather. So to fly in the UK in daytime - say 10:00 UK your local time would need to be 18:00-20:00. If you fly in your daytime the weather depicted would be night-time weather. i.e. 10:00 your time = midnight - 02:00 UK time. Ray (Cheshire, England). Where do you get upper wind and temperatures from? There’s a lot more to weather than creating a layer or two of cumulus / stratus. Ray (Cheshire, England). MSFS lacks only historical weather, so as you say, you cannot choose to fly in weather that was happening at the time set in the simulator, unless you are in that time zone and using Real Time. Apart from that there are presets and indeed addon presets that can replicate all kinds of weather conditions. April 27, 20233 yr Imho weather presets are rather useless and boring because they have no variety and they don't change over time. It's very boring to do a flight with the exact same weather from A to B. Again, imho. 😉 I prefer live weather, even if it doesn't suit the time. And indeed as Ray indicates: most presets are pretty basic. Edited April 27, 20233 yr by tup61
April 27, 20233 yr Indeed, my own preference is live weather but I am relaxed enough about it to fly with live weather and a time of my own choice. I respect the view that nothing is worthwhile unless it exactly replicates the real world, but I do not subscribe to it, as I do not lose sight of the fact that I am not flying an aircraft, I am sitting on a chair, at a desk and enjoying a home flight simulator.
