So.

My new build is complete. 7950x3d paired with 32gb 6000mHz cl 30 memory. Only M.2 disks and that 'slightly' ridiculously large 4090 which fit well into my new O11 Dynamic Evo case. Front glass panel exchanged in favour of the Lian-Li mesh front, where I plan on installing a couple of 140mm fans later on when everything is tuned and up and running. Will be interesting to see the impact on temps as well with some extra fresh air from the front fans. Building and tuning is the fun part.

Now comes the utter nightmare of installing everything again - and I am not talking about the OS as that is over and done with in a jiffy. It's all the other stuff. Licenses for all the PMDGs, software and whatnots. Was planning on ditching P3D all together with this build, but I was stupid enough to take the 777X for a spin and liked it so much I'll have to install P3D as well in the new build. Sometimes I just want to kick myself in the face.

To top everything off, I've got the man-cold of the century.

Send help. And beer. 😅

Then you might need dental work...

I too share your trepidation about installing everything.  Ughhhh.

Which 4090 did you end up going with?

Another note.  You may want to avoid using EXPO mem profiles right now.  Motherboard makers are in the process of updating BIOS to avoid an overheat that can occur.  Asus has a beta bios out now but I will most likely not be running a beta BIOS, I'll wait until it's fully ready.

I went with the ROG Strix OC variant.

Yeah, actually just updated to the beta version of the bios and will do some testing before using the EXPO mem profiles. 😅

Hmmm.. thought that HWINFO reported quite high voltage for the CPU; peaking sometimes at 1.35 - 1.36V caussing some angst on my part regarding the issues with fried chips. However disabling SMT made quite the difference, if one can trust the reporting of HWinfo. Starting P3D and messing about with it has resulted in only a peak of 1.172V CPU VDDCR_VDD.

That result made me want to try the EXPO profile. Almost.. 😉

Richard I just purchased the 7950x3d and the asus x670E F MOBO with the g skill rgb neo 2 x16gb ddr5 6000 cl30

can you please advise what I should do with the expo ? Is that like xmp? Do not enable?

sorry if it’s a dumb question it’s my first AMD build

thanks

Are you running the 1401 beta BIOS?

EXPO is AMDs version of XMP, that is correct. Not a dumb question at all regarding the potential issues at this point in time with the fried AMD chips and the fact that enabling EXPO could give an unhealthy boost to SoC Volts. Enabling it is also tempting as there is some performance gains to be made for sure.I would probably just run them stock until the BIOS is finalized and we get some more info regarding the issue.

I run the beta BIOS right now, and with SMT off I get low and comfy draw. I'll maybe try out the EXPO profile when I get home from work later and stare at HWINFO for a little while... 😉

Extremely happy with the build and that I chose the 7950x3d.

Set the BIOS to prefer the cache-cores and this seemed to work just fine. During one flight, though, both chiplets begun to be used by MSFS in an intermittent behaviour that caused temps to spike as all the cores saw quite high loads. This was easily alleviated by Process Lasoo, though. I've now set it up so that MSFS always goes to core 0-7. FSHUD, Navigraph charts, Fsltl traffic injector and OnAir goes to cores 8-15. Works like a charm and the performance is really good. Couldn't be happier! Haven't even begun experimenting with core offsets and memory profiles yet, so there should be even more performance to be had. Waiting for the BIOS to exit beta.

Just finished a 3+ hour flight in the Fenix from ESNU to BIKF and HWInfo reports an average CPU temperature of 59.5C over those hours.

Hello,

I’m not using process lasso and it is using only ccd0 cores with msfs while ccd1 cores parked… are you sure you are using latest(on amd site) chipset drivers and bios? Also did you update your game bar? And game mode on?
