Burlington to Poughkeepsie Part 1

Recommended Posts

Mostly low n slow in this stunning Waco paint.  A VFR flight from KBTV to KPOU.  Both airports are very high quality freeware available at the usual place.  This trip is about 180 miles - roughly 75 min of flying time with conservative power (about 130 mph but I had a decent tailwind).  The weather briefer said to expect MVFR for at least half of the trip.  Initially I wanted to stay low but the clouds pushed me too far into terrain so I climbed above them.  As the day went on, their tops went higher so I descended back down.

This WACO has no GPS (but if you look online you'll find some all glass panels), but I was equipped for IFR if I needed it.  It's got dual nav/comms and dme.

Starting off at Heritage FBO

The Green Mountain Boys must be out on a sortie.  I believe the F16s have all been phased out in favor of the F35.  Someone might know more though.

Looks decent VFR here...unfortunately that's opposite of where I need to go...

Mostly broken skies here where I elect to climb above it

A few bobs and weaves to maintain cloud clearance (2000 ft lateral and 1000 above in class C)

Ragged tops around 5300 or so....  so I set cruise power for 6500 ft

I had good views from here (not to mention great tailwinds) but I still feel like I need to be lower to really enjoy the trip

Like I said...not a bad setup.  Could use a GNS430W or GTN650Xi though 🙂

I'm finding this an extremely interesting trip. You picked a very picturesque route. Number 5 shot puts me right there!

Always a pleasure to see your amazing pictures Ryan!

I didn‘t buy the Waco back then due to all the reported issues. But after these beautiful pictures I can‘t resist any longer :)

Beautiful shots from one of my favourite parts of the world/sim, the Waco is always a joy to see and use, and that paint is the icing on the cake. Wonderful stuff.
