Better lighting in MSFS now?

On a side note, it's crazy how MSFS seems to know the correct color of lights in the corresponding positions. Aside from stadiums and playing fields, it knows where white or amber lights are in use. The oil storage facility and the community college where I live mostly use white lights and that is represented in the sim! Anyone else noticed this?

It could be based off the OSM data they have. They told the sim that certain building types should have certain light colours.

Poetic License?  Were they trying to make it more interesting to look at?

Yeah, I think there’s something in this.

How easy would it be for them to know which lights to keep on and which to turn off? It would be far easier for them to say, If road, lights on, as opposed to getting more granular about light placement. I guess there may be data out there but still, it might not be easy for them to implement.

It might not be an easy fix but since they managed to turn them on, it would suggest there is a way to turn them off.

Agree very much about ‘orbs of light’.  Modern street lighting is effectively down lighting and is designed to be that way.

Certainly but knowing what to keep on and what to turn off is the tricky part. Turn the wrong stretch of highway off and they'll be getting a new set of complaints.

Rather than have ALL major roads have lights on it wouldn't be very tricky to use an algorithm that says after X distance from the metro perimeter turn lights off, and apply a randomizer to have that impact X percentage of those scenarios so there is some variability.  Few will complain that a particular road was unlit or lit.
