Prepar3D V6 and Lorby apps.

Hello @ll,

at the moment we don't have access to V6, we have to wait for the version to be released to assess the changes that were made.

Nevertheless we will take the opportunity to clean up the Lorby apps lineup.

  • P4AO ("AddonOrganizer") and the SceneryExporter have already been updated and are available as prototypes (as requested by Pete Dowson). Be mindful that this happened "in the blind", so there is no telling if it will really work on day one.
  • AxisAndOhs will be updated to P3D V6 specs. But we need the new SDK first before this can happen.
  • Most (if not all) of the other payware apps (CropDusterX, FireFighterX, CameraPositonX, AiTrackerX and WAMA) will be removed from the shops. They don't go away, existing customers will still have them in their accounts, but they will no longer be sold. If the interest for a particular app is high enough, a V6 compatible variant will be provided to existing customers, if technologically possible (you just never know). But that will potentially take time, first the new sim will have to be evaluated.
  • The freeware apps (LorbyLiveTraffic, PayloadManagerX, LorbyTugDriver, Mooring etc.) will either be culled too or updated, if the general interest is high enough (and if an update is actually technologically possible).

CameraPositonX

Hello Oliver,

Now that ChasePlane will not be updated for V6, I am thinking of CameraX as a "poor man" solution.

My scenario (to further detail to check faisability ... )
- create/update cameras with CameraPositonX
- activate them using AAO and StreamDeck to emulate the CP named assignement.

Just to let you know that I just downloaded the latest version from my Simmarket account 😉

CPX is looking for the simulator config files, it won't find them in V6. If you are using this I will have to make a V6 version. Technically that is half an hour of work, assuming that the camera system, files and parameters are still consistent with V5. Send me an email if you want to try that. The V6 version of AAO is already done, but I am stuck in the version update that was scheduled anyway.

btw. AAO can already call P3D cameras directly, it has extra RPN commands for the P3D SimConnect camera functions. For example (CHANGEVIEW:xxxx) where xxxx is the camera name

Thanks for your feedback.

Good to know that I can already use AAO for camera management - I will start progressive implementation in V5.

For V6, I have not make my mind - I will wait after my holidays,  while following the add-on compatibility "inventory" progress.

I will let you know then.

Just thought I would mention that this is so refreshing to hear compared to what we have heard from other developers having a lot more resources.

i am still on V5 and do not plan to go on V6 anytime, but would like to indicate that flightsimming would not be as fun without firefighter X and lorby Time Machine, that I would be challenged without Lorby Mooring and Lorby Flashlight .. and totally at loss withiut  addon organizer. Tnx for all you do.

Thank you for your kind words.

I guess if you can update to V6 easily or not depends on what your addon does. Mine are mostly programmatic, so for me the effort is reduced to adding additional build commands, a few compiler switches here and there and a new installer package. But for example FireFighterX has a large visual part, the fire effects. Those look like words not allowed in V6. It was bad already in V5 when Lockheed changed the color progression logic, but now the flames are mostly black instead of red/orange. That is not an easy fix, because the basic logic that made the flames possible is simply gone since V5. And the burnt terrain splashes are missing, something else must have changed comning from V5.

The reason why we want to retire most payware apps is the support effort compared to sales. The MSFS compatible AxisAndOhs outsells all other apps combined 100:1. Reading the statements from the other developers that seems to be the standard rule of thumb for everyone. The P3D apps haven't even recovered the "virtual" development cost (=if I had to pay myself for creating them), not by a very long shot. And from the current sales of the legacy apps I could treat a dedicated P3D developer to a couple of meals at Mc D' every month as payment, but that is about it.

The freeware apps are a different matter, I will update those (where it makes sense) as a hobby 🙂

Hi,

Thank you very much for your work and your dedicate help to the community, not only as a developer of freeware, I love AAO.
I would like to by a v6 version of CPX as soon as you would get it published. I'm enjoying P3D V6 and this would help us to get the retire of //42 CP using your app and AAO.

Best regards

Richard

Hello

Can I add my request for a v6 version of CPX. I'm struggling to get several custom views I've just created using the inbuilt Manage Cameras Option onto Hotkeys and or my Hotas Warthog.

Thanks

Making the V6 version of CPX did not even take half an hour.

But unfortunately interest in this app isn't high enough to find me any testers. Not sure that we can actually release it, except as a prototype. But that would require a demo version, and that is more effort that it would be worth, all things considered. Not sure how to handle this yet.
