Yep,no need to download and reinstall everything which sits in your OFFICIAL and COMMUNITY folder.

I use the steam version, I simply downloaded it again via Steam which puts core install files here (in my example)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator (this path will be wherever you install the Steam client)
This is only 2GB install (quick and easy)

The meat and two veg (as I like to call it) is your OFFICAL and COMMUNITY folders which contain 100's of GBs and something you don't want to download again because it will take forever!

So copy both folders into your new build (wherever you like, can be a different drive altogether (like mine).  My folders are here...

D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages

So under \Packages I have this

D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Official

D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages\Community

Its REALLY important you have the \Packages in the path or else the sim won't pick it up

So at this point you should have

1. installed the steam client (wherever you like)

2. Copied your Official and Community folders as above (to a location or drive of your choice)

Next step, simply launch the sim and during setup it should ask you to browse to your Packages folder.  Simply point it to this folder, in my setup its D:\Microsoft Flight Simulator\Packages and the sim will just load everything as per normal, it won't download a single thing!

Job done.

Thanks for reply, I have store version, listening to some others today I think the process may be a bit different (I should have said in the first place I was on store version)

Thanks for getting back though, appreciate you took the time

I got about 20 fps increase...

So like a 40fps to 60fps OR 60fps to 80fps kind of improvement? Regardless that sounds very good...

This is all really encouraging to hear. I’ve just pulled the trigger on an upgrade to the 7800X3D and RTX4090. I’m also switching over from Intel with no prior AMD experience so I’m intrigued to see how everything goes.

The new PC itself comes with Win10, but I’m planning to upgrade immediately to Win11 (mainly for the ability to calibrate HDR mode), as my current setup is really overblown on the monitor. Are there any other considerations when it comes to Win11 (or arguments against the upgrade? I’m thinking 11 is pretty stable at this point).

Just to follow-up on my post from last month...

I received my new system, and spent a couple of days setting it all up. The very first thing I did was upgrade to Win11, and I'm glad I did, as my HDR monitor looks so much better than it did under Win10 after I calibrated it.

The performance was initially incredible — able to run masses of traffic, with FG/TAA, 120+ FSLTL aircraft at inibuilds EGLL with TLOD of 300 (running ultra widescreen 1440p). Then on my subsequent flights I started seeing some fairly bad stutters (weirdly only at high altitude).

After tweaking some settings, and disabling hyperthreading (or whatever it's called on AMDs) and virtualization, I was able to bring those under control again.

Now I'm getting decent frames again, with very little stuttering (even at places like Drzewiecki's KEWR with SamSoft's New York loaded).

One bonus of this system, which I hadn't realised before is that this generation of AMD processors are apparently the first to offer on-board graphics. So I'm able to pop-out some panels on a separate monitor and bypass the pop-out panels bug (although I think it wouldn't matter too much, with this much extra headroom).

I'm sure there are other things I could be doing to tweak performance, but for now I'm very happy with my purchase!

I dont have store version but I'm pretty sure the logic around the Official and Community folder is the same, just different file paths

Glad to hear you’ve had a good experience!  I’m certainly still very happy with my 7800X3D upgrade.

I’m interested to hear about your windows 11 upgrade experience…Windows 10 keeps prompting me to upgrade to 11 but I’ve been hesitant because frankly everything is working well now so I’m not overly keen to mess around with an upgrade, but I have heard the HDR is quite a bit better as per your experience so I am curious…
