July 14, 20232 yr A new CPU, RAM, or GPU would not require a re-installation of Windows. A new motherboard or C drive would require re-installation. My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Windows has come a long way since 3.11 was on 6 floppy disks. Obviously, if the C drive is changed and a disk image was not first made and transferred to the replacement disk, then there would be no Windows OS at all and one would need to be installed. July 17, 20232 yr Yeah, I've not reinstalled after motherboard, RAM and CPU change numerous times. Obviously if its just the CPU then the OS doesn't need reinstalling. BIOS might require flashing of course, if it's a newer CPU. If its the motherboard that's being replaced too, I just uninstall all old motherboard drivers and software, then install all required new drivers and motherboard software after the new board is installed. Then reactivate Windows if required.
