Blurry Fix in SP2

He spoke at great length about the DX9 vs. DX10 improvements, cockpit shadowing, etc. but has said nothing about this issue. There was (to me) a vague line in his SP2 blog post about optimizing photoscenery, and many folks here (and in the TileProxy forum) have speculated that perhaps that line was meant to address the blurries. However, he has not responded to those queries in that forum nor this one despite repeated attempts to ellicit a response.FWIW, I have a P4 3 Ghz with 2GB RAM and a 512 MB ATI card. Without boring you with the testing details (and countless reformats, defrags and cfg tweaks), I have made the same conclusion as many others here: SP2 "did something" to texture loading and the results is blurry textures. As a result, I have regressed to RTM and the problem does not exist there. I notice that both the default FSX textures as well as TileProxy-generated textures look fine, sharp and crisp in RTM, and horrible in SP1. Many other TP users have regressed to RTM as a result. (BTW- because my rig is not top notch I run FSX with no autogen, and most sliders to the left- this isn't a case of trying to exceed my hardware with right-sided sliders.)If the past is any indicator (with respect to "missed expectations" in FSX) I would guess that ACES reason for not responding to/ confirming that SP2 does address the blurries is, well, SP2 doesn't address the blurries. As such, it would not be in ACES best interest to disclose this since it would most likely cause users looking for a blurries fix to simply wait for the free SP2 patch instead of rushing right out and getting Acceleration (which has SP2 included). If ACES came out and said "SP2 goes a long way to address the blurries problem many have had since SP1" I would run right out and get Acceleration, as I would speculate many others in my situation would do. But if there is no blurries relief in SP2, I would just wait until I can get the patch for free.I have combed the posts here as well as on the other top flight sim forums and have found no comments made by ACES team members that would lead me to believe there is a fix in the works. Sigh. So, we are left guessing about this issue since ACES will not respond to it. Why so quiet about this issue and so responsive about other SP2 stuff? Will we hear ANYTHING from them about this before Acceleration is released? Phil? Hello?Beetle

Beetle, I sure hope you're wrong but you make a good point. This would be a major talking point of SP2 if it actually helped. I'll let you know when I pick up Acceleration on Tuesday whether my problem is better, worse, or the same. And no, I'm not buying Acceleration simply for SP2, I'm buying it for the P-51 and Merlin. :(

Chris,I feel your pain with blurries. I have tried just about every tweak there is and I get a mixed bag. What I mean is the first day I fly a route with little or no blurries. The next day fly the same route same time and same settings etc. and the dreadful blurries are more frequent. I can pause and allow the textures to catch up and start flying again. For me the blurries appear to be less if I just fly the default baorn and use unlimited frames. If I use the LDL 767 or any other payware the blurries are more prominent. It must be the slow processor and high grade textues of the payware aircraft. I can see the great potential of FSX but I will not be able to appreciate it until I upgrade. For now I just have to spend more time with FS9.good luck in trying to conquer the blurries. CarlDell E510- P4-3.4GHZ, 2GRAM, 7600G

Doesn't surprise me since you've done the same with the previous posts. All things being equal, with no autogen, there is something not normal with his setup or he is not representing the truth. He should not get those kinds of blurries with settings and a system which can handle the basic functions of FSX under RTM or SP1.

Well I have something interesting to report....I am one that has never really had the blurries-ever.I bought a new 24" monitor (replacing my 19") two days ago running now in 1920 x 1200 resolution on a nvidia 7600 gs 512-I was running 1400x900 on the 19".I am getting blurries now! I have never had this before with the other monitor. Is it the resolution, or monitor? I have tried lower resolutions on the new monitor and still get blurries!Maybe something here to look into or maybe not-but very perplexing and interesting!http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpgForum Moderatorhttp://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

There's a possible fix here, which I don't think has been mentioned in this thread. It involves setting MIPBIAS in FSX.cfg and clamping negative LOD bias on the video card:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...topic_id=401085If you haven't tried this yet, try it and let us know how it works for you. Successful or unsuccessful, it's more data about the problem.

Great fix for flickering textures, but did little to nothing relative to blurries on my system.Good suggestion though.RTH

I got rid of my blurries by setting Anisotropic Filtering to "Application Controlled" in my NVIDIA (video card) control panel AND then changing the filtering from "Triliner" to "Anisotropic" WITHIN FSX. Not sure if this will help you.

I messed around for several hours today-did tweaks, different driver settings. Again, what puzzled me is that I rarely got blurries till I changed from a 17" to a 24" monitor 2 days ago. (running a Gforce 7600 Gs 512). I even tried running in low resolutions/bit colors/slider variations to no avail. Seemed like this new combination caused blurries. Then I went to a locked 20 fps setting. Nvidia recomends with my card running at an unlimited setting for fsx-and before with my 17" monitor-if I didn't run unlimited I would get stutters and more blurries as opposed to locking. Now with the new monitor-locking at 20 gives me lack of stutters and a lack of blurries! It just shows-there are a lot of variables here! I am also running ulitmate terrain and fex with asx. Someone wrote something about locking a multiple of your monitor refresh rate if I am recalling correctly (maybe lcd only?!)-maybe this is worth looking into for those who are not getting success.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpgForum Moderatorhttp://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

Also, it is said to be best if you set your framerate to a multiple of your refresh rate - 20 - 40 etc. There are just too many variables to have a "one size fits all" fix, IMHO. What works fine for one is trash for another with an apparently identical system. Exactly-all I know is after two days of total blurries which I had never had before I am back to normal.I have to say-I don't think an average user should have to go thru all this-on the other hand with a couple hours of head scratching I am back in business.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpgForum Moderatorhttp://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/

I thought I would give SP1 another try, so I installed it, locked my frames at 20 using 60Hz, and a few seconds after taking off I was presented with an irrecoverable blurry mess. I then uninstalled SP1 and everything was back normal.http://sio.midco.net/FTP4/bluries.jpg
