December 24, 200718 yr Hi,I guess my edit to the water40.fx doesn't work. As I said I can't test it as I don't have a dx10 gpu. I'll have another look when I get some time. Probably after xmas.Paul
December 24, 200718 yr David and Jase et al,I have been following this thread and am now attempting to try this on my XP/7600GT/DX9/Acceleration/SP2 equipped rig. I got the new shader text file and replaced the Water20.fxh file, and then....I discovered that I do not have any "C:/Documents and Settings/YOUR NAME/Local Settings/Application Data/Microsoft/FSX/Shaders/Terrain" folder (much less the contents) on my machine. My Application/Microsoft Data folder contains sub-folders for MSN, Explorer, Crypto, etc., but no FSX! What is going on here? Have I been running without pixel shaders? I don't understand, as I have the normal "wing flex" functionality associated with shader use, but I don't have the terrain shader directory this thread points to.Any suggestions?Todd
December 24, 200718 yr Hi Todd, sounds strange. Are you sure your looking in the 'local settings' folder for the user you are logged in as? The only reason a FSX folder wouldn't appear is if FSX hadn't been run under that user name.Make suer your not looking in the 'all users' folder or the 'default user' folder. Can you see your FSX.cfg in 'C:/Documents and Settings/YOUR NAME/Application Data/Microsoft/FSX?Paul
December 24, 200718 yr Paul,I went back and rechecked and found a number of permutations of my name located in "Documents and Settings" folder. Only one folder contained a visible "applications data" sub-folder. This one used my full name, without any suffix, and this "applications data" sub-folder in turn contained a "Microsoft" sub-folder, but without a FSX sub-folder, let alone the "terrain/shader" thingy.I then tried setting the top-level folder to show "hidden and system" sub-folders. This revealed (under a my name plus DBF70D31 suffix (the Dell machine identifier) an applications datamicrosoftfsx path to a sub-folder containing sub-folders for Controls, SimObjects, Substitutions, and a collection of secenery and FSX cfg files; but alas no terrain/shader path or folders.I have also noticed that in my FSX cfg file value of the following entry has changed to:[GRAPHICS]SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693500672The pre Acceleration/SP2 value was 1693428480 for my nVidia 7600GT.Attempting to edit this parameter results in FSX resetting it back again during FSX startup. I wonder if this is related to my shader problem.Any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated, thanks.Todd
December 25, 200718 yr Todd-You're still in the wrong 'Application Data'folder. The complete path is:C:Documents and SettingsYour User NameLocal SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftFSXShadersTerrainhttp://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD PowerSpec G426 PC running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS, Intel Core i7 11700K @ 3.60GHz 30 °C, 4089MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 , ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Gaming motherboard, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD, Samsung 750 EVO 500GB SSD, Acer Predator X34 34" curved monitor (external view), RealSim Gear G-1000 avionics suite, RealSim Gear GNS 450, Slavix Stay Level Custom Metal Panel, Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Redbird Alloy THI, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals.
December 25, 200718 yr Nope, it is not there. There is no ShadersTerrain sub-folder. The path just ends at ..FSX and then contains a few CFG files and some files initialization iformation files created by commercial third-party applications.Todd
December 26, 200718 yr Todd - very odd...Hmmhttp://www.my-buddy-icon.com/Icons/objects/red_3d_plane.gifAlex ChristoffN562ZBaltimore, MD PowerSpec G426 PC running Windows 11 Pro 64-bit OS, Intel Core i7 11700K @ 3.60GHz 30 °C, 4089MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 , ASUS TUF Z590-Plus Gaming motherboard, Samsung 870 EVO 2TB SSD, Samsung 750 EVO 500GB SSD, Acer Predator X34 34" curved monitor (external view), RealSim Gear G-1000 avionics suite, RealSim Gear GNS 450, Slavix Stay Level Custom Metal Panel, Honeycomb Alpha Yoke, Redbird Alloy THI, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals.
December 26, 200718 yr whether one could not use the RAM more. I'm saying that because of a program called Truecrypt, who allows you to read files (video, audio) by decrypting them in the RAM, sending the chunks to display one after the other without stutter or anything. I you can play a movie like that, why not some other graphic files?
December 26, 200718 yr Hi Todd, there should be two 'application data' folders. One in:c:documents and settingsYOUR USER NAMEapplication dataand one is:c:documents and settingsYOUR USER NAMElocal settingsapplication dataMake sure you are looking in the second one for the microsoftfsx folders (there are two of these. One in each of the paths.)Make sure you have 'show hidden files and folders' checked in 'folder options'.If the FSX folder you have found is there, the other one should be there too.Paul
December 26, 200718 yr Well, I really goofed up somehow. While trying out the various forms of this text file, I managed to overwrite the ORIGINAL FSX file. The enhanced file(s) didn't work to my liking so I need to get the text of the ORIGINAL Water20.fxh file back.Any help on this most appreciated. Got to get back to flying!bill
December 26, 200718 yr I have the same problem. Do I have to reinstall SP1 and SP2 again? I also have XGraphic and UTX installed, how about those?
