November 13, 20232 yr Hi, My 14 year old PC is due for replacement. On the new sytem, i want to run prepar3d V6 and Qualitywing’s B787 in VR. I have zero experience with VR, but i do have experience on the real B787. I’m thinking about buying an intel I7 PC with 32 Gb RAM, 1 Tb SSD, RTX 4070 graphics card and a Meta Quest 3 headset. Is this going to work? In particular: will the inside out handtracking of the Quest 3 work well enough? Will it still work when the Quest is connected (“thethered”) to the PC? Does anybody out there have a similar setup? Are there better ways to go about it, within reasonable budgettary limits of course?
November 13, 20232 yr I don't know much about VR, but I would strongly suggest a 2 TB SSD and an additional data drive. I have a ton of addons on my P3D v5 setup, and my 1 TB SSD is almost completely full. I'm getting a new machine built with all the latest hardware. Finances permitting, I suggest you do the same instead of buying the one you're considering since running sims is getting more and more demanding. " Future Proofing" is always a good idea. November 14, 20232 yr From what I've seen on the forums, it doesn't work well in V6. The PFD's and the NDs are blacked out. I have real world experience on the B777. Pete Locascio Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, Nvidia RTX 5090, Samsung 9100 Pro 2&4 TB Drives, 64 GB RAM, Asus Z-890 motherboard.
November 15, 20232 yr Havn't try QW787, but with the PC12 in P3Dv5.4 which I can normally run to limited 90FPS (7900X3D, 4080), can barely went to playable 30~40 FPS with P3D's own VR output, and not support the VR controller at all, let along hand (So far I haven't see any PCVR game can support hand with Q3). Maybe Flyinside could get the controller support in P3D work, I have played that in school few years ago with Steam VR. MSFS have much better VR support, I have flown it with PMDG737 and it's quite Nice with controller (although I prefer to use mouse anyway), XP12 support VR controller as well, but the FPS in VR is even worse than P3Dv5 Edited November 15, 20232 yr by C2615
November 15, 20232 yr On the QW forum there was a question asked about P3Dv6 supported back in July and as mentioned there are known cockpit display and lighting issues when flying in the daytime. At night they appear to work. There has been no mention from QW about making the 787 v6 compatible unfortunately. November 15, 20232 yr From what I've read you need a beefy system to use the quest 3. If at all possible I would shoot for an I9k processor so it can be overclocked or one that's already running higher than 5+ Ghz. As well as a 4090 for the GPU. As far as the GPU is concerned a lot of folks posting quest 3 videos are running on 4090's. However, those are almost 3 times as expensive as a 4070 and 4080's are twice as much. Also, only based on my reading, the 4090 performance/price difference with the 4080 is stating that the 4090 is the way to go. Only if you don't have a budget limitation. Yea right, most of us don't have that luxury. 🙂 I9-9900, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3090 FTW
