Brian,How good are their GPS? I don't mind limited functionality. But I would have to avoid the GPS completely if they miss assign keys to the functionality or provide for functionality that doesn't exist in the real unit. I don't want to get into bad habits and get into trouble when I use the real GPS weather its the Garmin or the Bendixking 94 in the real plane.Manny

It isn't as good as the RXP units (which will be released for FSX in the future), but it beats the pants off the FS default, or the GPS supplied with this aircraft.For the price, it's pretty tough to beat.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could get more reality in everyday avionics that are commonly used/found in the general fleet? Elite actually built a fully functioning KLN94 for their simulators. Yes..they apparently finished building it...but Bendix King would not give them the right to publish it. They do not want anyone building a PC simulator of their GPS. Such closed attitude is obviously not doing them any good...but they never learn.Garmin has been so open about their products. This way, real pilots can learn to use their system and become so familiar they build certain "familiarity/loyalty" to their product line which is a great sales/marketing asset. The idiots at Bendix King are so out of date with their attitude and way of thinking.. they'll go the way of the dodo bird! They have no one but themselves to blame for it.

I agree about King-really behind the times-my understanding is Garmin was started by a couple engineers that left King for this reason.I did investigate the kln94 situation though-and talked to King directly a few years ago. It turns out they had engaged a company to make a kln94 simulator-something didn't work out and it was tied up by lawsuits. So at least what they told me a few years ago-that is why they could not sanction another company to make a simulator. A real drag-cause there is never enough time on a real flight to get into the nitty gritty. Isn't Aerosoft doing a good kln for their Otter?I agree, Geofa, a 496 would be great. Especially for little panels like those of the RealAir Scout or Rick Piper's Aeroprakt.

Problem with the new FSX Scout is that RealAir has modeled the knobs into their VC, so trying to replace those radio gauges and installing something else creates the original knobs sticking through the gauge.I love the new RealAir Scout, but that has made it pretty much 'live with it as is' in terms of swapping of any of the radio/gps gauges.We gained a bit of reality in the function of these new stock gauges, but lost in the ability to modify/swap the units (as I did in FS9 with a RXP Garmin 430 in place of the NAV/COM 1 radio).As far as the rest of RealAir gauges....nothing elase comes close to comparing. Those are magic and not to be disturbed at any cost. ;)

Well, here's the problem. Now, chances are they won't lose a ton of business to this, but, think about it.You put a Garmin (or Bendix) simulator on your PC for, say, $100 at the high end. Now, hook up your trusty $100 GPS to the PC and feed it to the Garmin simulator, and you've got a fully functional Garmin for $200. Hmmm. A little more programming might even get it to work on a Windows Mobile PPC. I am not sure I fully understand your point-but I did use my Anywhere map with a pocket pc for years driving off of fs and gpsout.I am not sure what you mean by hooking up a $100 gps to the pc-as it would not be moving there would be no data. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.What I am saying is that, by using the simulator, you could drive the inputs of the simulated FS gauge off of the outputs of a real GPS antenna. You're not constrained by having to run it off of the position of the plane in FS. Even if you were, you could position the plane in FS off of the output of the GPS antenna. Then just display the GPS Simulator on your PC on the seat next to you or whatever you want, and, as long as your nav database is up to date, you can have a Garmin 1000 or whatever for the price of FS and the simulated gauge, instead of paying $10,000.Granted, it's not FAA certified, and you're stuck with having to deal with computer crashes and the like, but, I think you get the idea. I believe this is what Bendix-King fears. Of course, Garmin realizes that most pilots want certified equipment since they can lose their license if they are caught using non-certified equipment, and that they are better off getting pilots trained on their equipment than worrying about such silly things (right now it's silly, anyway). Why would you want to replace Real Air gauges?They are the best of the best. when it comes to performance. I would rather have Real Airs unmodifiable gauges that is smooth as silk than the flexibility that you are looking for thats available elsewhere.Manny

For 1 it would be illegal to use a non certified GPS to use as a pri,ary instrument. And the cost of PC is not taken into your equation maybe?;)
